I Hate Research Essays

I really do. I have to write one for English, and I still do not know my topic. The part I hate most is the research. Usually, I just use the facts I already know, or make them up, but now you have to be able to cite everything. The worst is, it has to be from reputable sources, like journals, so any topic that interests me is out (I'd probably do something about Linux or some other computer related thing, but they never make it into serious journals).

But, do you think that if research papers had never been invented, that the communists would have taken over Russia?

I'd like them, but I'm lazy.

Orly? I rather like research essays because I don't actually have to think. You just find stuff, copy and paste, and try to make coherent paragraphs out of them.

You should write about the theme of The Count of Monte Cristo, then send it to me so I can steal it for my English essay on Monday.

Writing about the __________ of a book is what got me a 60 in English. I only got marks because I could write an Essay without actually knowing anything about what I am talking about.

I don't need your help. Especially if I must pay for it. I earned the B I have right now.

I can get your English marks up to an A, but if you're unwilling to pay, then stick with your work and your B.

What on Earth are you talking about? There's a host of peer reviewed computer journals that talk about Linux.

First Search (ECO) is turning up 9 hits
ACM Journal search is giving me 64
ACM's Guide has over 200
Computing Reviews has 280, many peer reviewed

And finally, Google Scholar has 314,000 hits:

You might want to do some more research. The communist did take over russia, for like...72 years.

The trick is to sound incredibly plausible.

But would no research papers = no Soviet Russia?

Why couldn't you just claim to have written a book, and do an essay on it?

Research essays are fun for me only if the subject is fascinating. I remember I had to do a chemistry research paper and a girl who had a similar topic as me stole all my sources for my bibliography so I had to find new sources. I think my sources really helped her because she got a 100%.

Eh, I kind of like useing old sources. The oldest non primary source I can remember useing in a reserch paper recently was first published 1906. Of course it was for a paper on conflict with in Renaissance guilds, so wasn't exactly on one of the most vibrent and rapidly changing fields of the day;)

use google scholar. if that doesnt work, use http://infomine.ucr.edu

2000 words by thursday? considering a normal, double spaced 12pt font page uses 250 words, thats about 8 and a half pages.

so really think about it being 4 single spaced pages.
