Superman 64 or ET...Superman might be worse because it cost more. Fourtunatly I rented it first.
Blockbuster saved my life :P
Recently (last 5 years or so)
Without its patches, The Guild 2. The game crashes every 1-5 minutes, literally. With patches its a decent game though.
So, excluding the Guild 2, I would say Battlefield 2142. I loved BF for its ability to give people who cant get DSL and are too cheap to pay for cable/satilite the feeling of being online via its singleplayer.
BF2 took that away from me, and I have never forgiven EA. Bastards crippled one of my favorite game series.

ET wasn't necessarily a bad game - I mean, it was a bad game, but that's not what made it noteworthy.
It was a game...with a weird name....really similar to the Elder Scrolls series and Fable, which are awesome games, but it failed so dismally...it really was bad.So bad I can't even remember what it was called.

While I have never actually played this game, it sounds pretty bad. Also it currently holds a 4% average on gamerankings, and most of that 4% comes from the fact that some sites can't rate games any lower, although.

There's literally no way anyone could reasonably dispute this. If there were another consensus pick for worst game ever, you would happily play it for eternity rather than spend even a few minutes with Big Rigs.

Any game played in the third person perspective.
I HATE third person perspective.
At the moment I'm trying to play "Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory" on PS2. The concept of the game (stealth) is brilliant. But the third person perspective kills it. Let's see, this joystick controls movement (but switches the view around everywhere when you do) and the other joystick moves the view (except when you're moving in which case it also controls movement seemingly independently of the first control).
**smacks forehead as if to say DUH!**
At least the option for first person would be nice. Then I could spend my time actually playing the game instead of constantly getting killed and reloading. That gets old pretty quickly.

Hmmm...I generally avoid playing terrible games, so I couldn't comment on the "worst ever", but the worst that i've played is probably an early 90's game called "ShadoWorlds" by Krisalis...the poor graphics might make it seem worse than it actually is in comparison with todays titles, but it sucked at the time, too. Some of the ones mentioned in this thread would undoubtedly be worse, though.
Actually, I think WoW is bad. It's incredibly simplistic and repetitive. It's the weakest MMORPG I've played.
That's why it's so popular. It's an updated version of Diablo. Not that I liked Diablo much either, mind.

Wow....I was going to come in here and make a case for dreck like Final Fantasy Mystic Quest or the PS1 budget title Grudge Warriors (think Vigilante 8, if it had been programmed by a 3-year old using nothing but a Speak and Spell), but reading the Wiki for Big Rigs convinces me, without even playing it, that it alone truly deserves the worst game title. Especially since it actually sold well. Brain-dead developers 1, American public 0. Although it seems the people responsible for this aberration might be out of business, as the Wiki link to their site just takes you to a search page. Guess that means we'll all be spared the horror of a sequel.

But if Splinter Cell was in first-person, you'd get frustrated every time a part of your body that you can't see isn't hidden. When I play Rogue Leader I don't use the first person for some of the ships because it's so wide I keep crashing bits I didn't even realise I had into stuff.

Let me put it to you this way - I watch the show and haven't missed an episode in six seasons. I discuss the show in depth on another message board. I speculate, I make guesses, and I can tell you, in detail, who the greatest player in the show's history is and who's the worst. What all can I do in EVE Online?
In EVE, you're typically piloting a spacecraft. You can:
Fight and kill other players
Mine asteroids for ore
Defend your ore from pirates
Refine ore into minerals
Manufacture goods (including weapons and even ships)
Acquire and outfit mutliple spacecraft.
Start a corporation
Hunt pirates for social or material gain
Run missions for corporate agents
Buy and sell commodities
Haul cargo for profit
Once you have a sufficiently powerful corporation (either your own or someone else's) you can even build and own space stations.

neat, can you have a personal space station?
neat, can you have a personal space station?
You can start your own corporation with just you in it, so conceivably you could own a personal space station. But it might be difficult to acquire enough materials to build one or defend it all by yourself.
Most people just rent space in existing space stations. Plus, hangars are publically available, so anyone can store their extra ships free of charge.
