Geography, the learning game

This is part word game, part intersting oppotunity to learn some new things. The rules work like this. Someone posts the name of a place, and three facts about that place, the next person then has to post a place that begins with the last letter of the previous place and three facts for that place etc.

1. The place must be at least the size of a single building, anything smaller is just silly. For things that size see famous building, railway station etc
2. The name of the place itself is not one of the three facts
3. You may use fictional places, but they must have been refernced in either myth or literature somewhere
4. If you use the same place as someone else it must have diffrent facts
5. Just to clarify this is any place, town, city, region, state, province, country, continent, geological formation, villiage, recording studio, hamlet etc. Thats to avoid the A loop you go into if you just do countries (as for some reason, with only two exceptions all countries that begin in A end in A)
6. You may if you wish use the offical name of the place in question, but you dont have to (So if you had Mogadashiou, you could do United Kingdom of Great Britian and Northern Ireland)

Ok, I will begin

And its principal economic activity is coal mining, is home to the northernmost statue of Lenin in the world, and is number one on my list of "boring places that i'd like to visit just because nobody else ever would". I know too much useless crap.

Gabo Island:
1. Is pronounced "gay-bo".
2. Is off the eastern coast of the state of Victoria, Australia.
3. Has a lighthouse.

Scapa Flow :

Inside the Orkney Islands.
German fleet was scuppered here in 1919 after a breakdown of communications.
Now somewhat popular with tourists as some of the wrecks are still visible.

Dortmund:

a) has around 600.000 inhabitants and is the economic center of Westphalia.
b) used to be a world capital of beer, but decades of pointless mergers and mismanagement have ruined that for good.
c) One of its suburbs is called Dorstfeld.

EDIT...and that was spam?
