It's something sailors say to a Captain in acknowledgement of an order.

Ok. I prefer NS then. While the rum is nice I'd prefer to avoid sodomy and the lash.

I believe so. As far as I can see, it consists of people going:

"You can't say that, I just blew you up!"
"No, you didn't!"
"I did! I did!"

I usually RP in International Incidents.
Just cos when I browse NS, it seems to have mostly marriages, balls, etc.
Not my scene at all.
Nor is a lot of the RP in II, to be fair, I just know a few people I can RP with on a reasonable level, and occasionally dive into other things, through boredom and/or to find new people I like RPing with.

you consider debate weird, but not pretending to have a war with a pretend country against other pretend countries?
This whole RP thing is starting to make some sense.
I stick my nose in both RP forums sometimes, II more than NS. But I was never active there. I did more RP off-site, but between RL and some "writer's block", I've mostly drifted away from the RPing.

Most of the serious roleplayers I know, don't exactly qualify as nerds. They are usually more like...amateur writers. Of course, as in any conglomerate or group, you can find anything.
Another point...If you think that NSG is filled of debate, I hope you take a class or two of negotiation or rhetoric. NSG is filled with interchange of opinions and judgements, but hardly debate. Barking the points of view at each other hardly qualifies as debate in the strict sense of the word.
Regarding my first point, to compare International Incidents Forums and the Nationstates boards...As I said, better roleplayers try to take the game, the roleplaying one, that is, as a form to train in their writing skills. Obviously, two lines posts of "I nuke your cities and enslave the survivors" don't exactly fit in that line. Sadly in International Incidents that kind of posts is more common than in Nationstates, alongside with a severe lack of quality in spelling, grammar and style. That is why I choose Nationstates over International Incidents.
Another plus, most roleplays that run in the NS boards are cooperative writing, while in International Incidents is more like a competitive one. As the game per se does not have a mechanism to determine winning or losing sides, well, the bitching occurs, and also it is an awful lot more common in II than in NS.
As an example, placing myself on the line, I hardly try to compare both NSG and NS boards, as the point behind each is pretty different. However, for me I prefer Nationstates, as I am a professional journalist and I am already tired of "debating" and "offering opinions" in real life for good everyday and in real, influential issues, and not on an international community that hardly listen to what you have to say anyway, and that marks it as fiction as any roleplayed story. For me, NS is for relax, and as a hobby to be away from the rudeness of the common world a bit every night.
Just my two cents, as any, it is an opinion, as worthy as anything else. However, the style of each is valid for anyone, and each has pros and contras. Yet to prefer Nationstates over II and NSG, or any combination of those three, do not make anyone better or worse than others who like more another style, as some people in this forums have tried to show.
NSG about debate...
I chortled.

If you can call it that.
Most debates go off topic by page 3, unless the question is a broad one then they might last until page 7...
The debates then spiral downward into a pit of childish flaming, whining and tattling, with a spark attempt to revive the topic, only for it to fizzle out as the clowns come in and hijack it, while feeding the trolls.

here is how a thread falls off topic without being hijacked.
1) Debate Starts
2) Debate goes into more narrow areas
3) Joke-post made
4) side discussion sparked by joke-post
5) joke-post discussion dominates
6) thread falls off-topic

I tihnk I've made one or two posts outside NSG and spam. I don't like those crazy places, they scare me.
I like international incidents. It has more nation based roleplay and less character based(I don't have a problem with the latter, but uh, I thought this was about your nation, not Mr. Randy L. Quigly), also NS is full of sports.

It's funny you should say that because I actually wanted to start a Godmodding thread for the purpose of doing just that(thought it would be fun), but I haven't since I didn't think anyone would enjoy it.
