Possibly, the towers were built in the 70's. Beyond that, tons of concrete dust flew into the air, that can't have been good.

Except its not. People in the UK say '9/11', it's an American event, so it gets an American calendar format. When 3,000 people die in an attack there are more important things to worry about than the style of date used.
