It's probably nothing

but I think that this mole on my nose has changed. I think that it used to hardly protrude and the bit that did protrude was only the colourful bit. Now it's like the lighter skin around it is protruding too. Do moles change on their own or is that always a sign that something is wrong?

I suggest you go to a doctor ASAP. Strange moles are one sign of skin cancer, IIRC.

It's probably nothing, but you should go anyway just in case...

yep. You should always see a doctor if the moles you have change at all.

Hmm... I don't really have a regular doctor that I see consistenly. Should I probably just call the place in the student centre or would going to a walk-in clinic be alright?

Presuming you are at a university, go to the (free!) clinic. If they can't diagnose you, they might refer you to a specialist, which your insurance might require in the first place. I personally like to avoid walk in places like the plague.

Well, it isn't really doing any of those really, unless you count increasing protrusion as increasing in size, the colourful bit has stayed the same.

If you feel uncomfortable, probably better to be safe then sorry and drop into a clinic. ;)

Depends on the clinic. I am not keen on school clinics. I had one diagnose something and it turned out to be much less then it was.....

As the others have said. ALWAYS talk to a doc when a mole changes. It can mean something very bad!

Come on now....don't be playing doctor...... :p

Q: What are my options for removing an unsightly mole?
A: Moles can be surgically excised (cut out). When this is done, the entire area around the mole is removed and stitches are placed to close the wound. There is little or no chance of recurrence and the resulting scar is usually a fine white line.

Moles with an elevated surface typically are removed cosmetically by a process called shave excision. This involves numbing the area around the mole and removing the top portion of it so it is flush with the surrounding skin. A small scar usually results, which is usually cosmetically acceptable. If the mole had hair or was dark in color, these likely would remain. There is a chance that after this procedure the mole could regrow.

That's what NSG is for, though! Educated medical advice and, where possible, assistance. *snip snip*

However I cant see it, see a doctor, if it's something, you'll be glad to know. If it's not, it's a great feeling to hear a doc say "No, you're fine, have a wowwipoop".

I am referring to clinics here in Ontario that are staffed by qualified doctors. They will refer you to another doctor if they feel there is a need.

It's not unsightly, I like my mole, if I had to have it removed (i.e. if there was something wrong with it) then I'd probably get my nose pierced to replace the mole.

Walk in is a good idea just to get an idea. They can refer you which is good.

Time for a trip to the Doctor, only safe thing to do. Skin cancer's a bitch, and while it's probably nothing, better to be safe than sorry with dieseases.

Depends. If it's changed from this:

to this:

or even this:

Then I recommend you go see a doctor immediately. It almost definitely is malignant.

close.
It's perhaps the weirdest, creepiest animal ever existed: The star-nose mole.
Even makes the naked mole-rat look cute in comparsion.
That weird red octopus-like thing is actually it's nose. Apparently it's got the keenest sense of smell of any animal.
Big hands too.

Ew. One, that would hurt, and two, it would bleed. I've had a mole scratched before- pain and blood. Not fun.

If your mole is changing, I'd reccomend you see a doctor.

That's quite possibly the scariest thing I've ever seen. The star nosed mole is going to replace the whale my nightmares.
