Your favourite alcoholic drink.

The Children of Vodka

Yeah. These threads pop up all the freakin' time. But hey, i'm inspired from having drunk too much over dinner. I realised i am one of the few people i know who enjoys beer, white spirits, dark spirits, liquers, red wines and white wines. And NSG being the diverse and opinionate place it is i wondered what you all thought. Also i figured that with my screen name it would be criminal NOT to start an alcohol thread. So what do you drink? What do you enjoy the most? Personally

On a hot summers day: Beer
On a night out with friends: Vodka
When eating: Wine, especially reds.

Poll Coming...

Hmmm...
I tend to drink Rum or Vodka when I can...
However, on a college student's budget, it's usually beer.

Generally some veriety of beer; a lager if I'm doing things or it's hot, an ale or a bitter if it's cold/i'm not doing anything, just sitting in the pub drinking and talking.

Due to studentyness atm, it's generally "Firebrand - Czech Lager" at the mo' - £15 for 24 cans, which isn't bad. :D

We have a lot of cheap beer here. Unfortunately a lot of it tastes like chilled horse urine. However there are quite a few that i can get a carton/case of for about AUS$30. And a lot of good wines for around the $20 mark.

They have a Big Mac index. They need a Johnny Walker Index. How much items cost in relation to how much a bottle of JW red retails for in the local currency. Alcohol is far more important than stomach chruning fast food.

Various coctails, usually, often containing gin and some form of liquer (lately I've developed a fondness for apricot brandy). I also enjoy Jägermeister.

Chilled. Hot is only for bad sake or winter time when you need the warmth (like mulled wine).

Good sake should always be chilled.

I like stouts, red wine and dark spirits (esp. whisky and calvados). Lagers and such are more of a thing to drink when there's nothing else cheap-ish available at the bar and I want to get drunk. Ales are so rare where I live (except maybe Newcastle Brown Ale) that I hardly ever drink them.

I find Polish lager to be superior to Czech lager. Yeah, Pilsner Urquell, Staropramen and Budvar are good, but I really do like Polish lager, especially Tyskie and Zywiec. (And they have a great beer in Poland that I haven't been able to get my hands on here called Dog in the Fog - one of the finest beers I've ever tasted).

It is too bad that beers in Italy have to be pasteurised unless you drink them where they are produced. Damn Pasteur, he spoiled beers!;)

Beers/stouts: I tend to prefer the darker beers, Guinness and the like. My recent favourite is Abbey, from the New Belgium brewing company.

Wines: The wine I drink really depends on what I'm eating (or not) with it. These days I'm drinking a lot of Californian wines (shocking, I know). There are a lot of wineries close to where I live that aren't really that well known outside of the area, but that have some good wines; it's fun to take day trips out to their tasting rooms. What I'm really looking forward to, though, is the release party in February for Silver Oak's Napa Valley cab.

White and dark spirits: Unless I'm doing shots, I usually have these in cocktails of some sort. Actually, are we putting brandies in this category? I do enjoy those, especially armagnac. That never gets mixed with anything, and I always have it in a snifter after dinner.

Liqueurs: I almost never have liqueur. Amaretto di Saronno is about the only one I'll have on its own; I find everything else is too sweet.

I really don't drink anything but beer and the occaisional wine these days. I've been exploring various Michigan wines lately, and have found several that are quite tasty. The best Michigan wines are "fruit wines", like apple wine and cherry wine.
