This seems to me to be a really bad idea.

And I think it helps prove the theory that conservatives don't really get humor.
Here's the story (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/television/news/e3i61fccc799efa3cb7cc70027d80722adf).
Fox News Channel might air two episodes of a "Daily Show"-like program with a decidedly nonliberal bent on Saturday nights in late January, with the possibility that it could become a weekly show for the channel.

The half-hour show is executive produced by "24's" Joel Surnow and Manny Cota and creator Ned Rice, who previously wrote for "Politically Incorrect" and "Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson" through This Just In Prods. It would take aim at what Surnow calls "the sacred cows of the left" that don't get made as much fun of by other comedy shows.

"It's a satirical news format that would play more to the Fox News audience than the Michael Moore channel," Surnow said. "It would tip more right as 'The Daily Show' tips left."
Here's what I mean--the Daily Show isn't funny because it tips left. It's funny because it pokes fun at people in power, and at the media sycophants who enable them. It may tip left now because the people in power have largely been on the right, but Stewart has never been shy about sticking forks in notable lefties--especially anyone who associates with Hugo Chavez.

But it seems like what they're trying to do with this show is simply make fun of liberals. Isn't that what most of Fox News's "analysis" already does? So will this just be more of the same?

Take the poll.

So will this just be more of the same?

Will it not also be the most unoriginal thing Fox has created?
"What if we made the Daily Show, but for conservatives?"

Considering that the conservative humor I've seen tends toward the Ann Coulter, "I wish Tim McVeigh had blown up the NY Times" type, I'd say unoriginality will be the least of its problems.

Another good example of an equal opportunity comic. Cohen nailed liberals as well as conservatives as Borat. Of course, so far it's only been the conservatives who've gotten pissed and sued, thus furthering my thesis that conservatives just don't understand humor.

I voted yes. Making fun of stupid liberals should be on the top of everyone's priority list, on par with making fun of stupid conservatives, stupid libertarians, and stupid populists.

The people in power need to be regularly mocked.

But Faux will do it very poorly, I'm sure.

I've seen some fantastically good satire of liberal positions in The Onion. If the folks at Fox news end up doing something like that, it could be really good.

Unfortunately, I doubt they will.

there isnt anything inherently wrong with the concept. bashing liberals and democrats can be very funny.

the likelihood that they will hire the proper caliber of writers/producers/directors/onair talent required to make a show like this work is pretty low. what does a news channel know about comedy?

I'll guarantee you this: a comedy channel knows more about satirizing news than a news channel will ever know about writing satire.

You don't think Tom just pulls this stuff out of his ass, now do you?

Why doesn't FOX just mandate a politically-oriented, satirical program and just see where it goes from there, rather than mandating a program for the express purpose of advancing a particular slant?

If America Weakly (http://americaweakly.com/) is any guide, then it's clear that the conservatives don't really "get" political humor. Unless it's unintentional, self-deprecating kind, of course...

Same here. But I agree, the idea of something like that being "humor" is rather sickening.

Although part of me feels she meant the latter (knowing her, anyway...).

As vile as she is, it may indeed have been.

How would a conservative fake news show be any diferent then their current lineup?

I get it just fine, and I'm a conservative. Though I am one of those silly moderate ones.

The folks who try to pass for conservatives these days often don't see me as a conservative. But that's probably because they're too busy turning conservativism into mere political and and social minority-bashing, Constitution-abusing, over-moralizing hypocritical nonsense. I understand that doing something like that does take a fair amount of attention.

Since this is Fox, surely it'd be better if it was an outstanding success.
Then they'll can it, like they do with all their shows which prove popular.

Sorry about the over-generalization... by "conservatives" I meant more the fundamentalist, nationalistic, fear-mongering, rhetoric-spewing, liberal-bashing morons that are all over Fox News and talk radio, not the traditional conservatives.

Stewart/Colbert spend less time mocking a specific political party and more time mocking the way that the media cover them because the 24 hour news media has become some sort of Networkesque nightmare that would leave Howard Beale twitching in his window sill muttering, "And I thought Psychic News was cartoonishly too far..."

Really, though, this comes off not as conservatives really, but Fox being the deserved butt of so many jokes like that cocky rich kid who is really a dumb ass trying to go, "Oh yeah, well...you're all poopy heads."

Hmm...don't post while groggy. Well, it makes sense to me so I'm sailing with it.
