it doesn't matter to me in the slightest what race they are. i would never bother to assume what someone's ethnicity was in normal interactions because it has little or no bearing on how i would interact with them. the only thing i can see mattering is cultural considerations, like you wouldn't deliberately show the soles of your feet to a malaysian(? can't remember) or whatever cuz it's considered rude (unless you already had an easy relationship with them and you were taking the piss), but if you did and it offended them you'd say, woops! and not do it again and just carry on as normal.

Pretty much everyone in the US? In Britain if you described someone as Asian, we'd assume you meant someone from (or descended from) the Indian sub-continent.
