Does Power Corrupt?

The "page scandal" and other actions of the Republicans in congress in America have brought more accusations than usual of Republicans being corrupted due to the them being in power since 1994. My question is, does power corrupt, or are people corrupt before they come into power?

IMO it's because the concept of power attracts more corrupt people than honest people.

There is an old saying "If you want to see someone's real face just give them power."
I tend to agree with that. You see the true face of someone when they are in command--

Thats a hard question. Power does corrupt some. But not all. It depends on who you are talking about, some will find the power irresistible while others may be able to control it.

And anyone can be corrupt, not just Republicans.

Corrupt people seek power and people like power and its use. So, both can be argued.

Yes, power corrupts. I live in the dominican republic, and there are no shortage of stories about the congressman from some backwards place who started out as "such a nice guy" and ended up out of a seat for corruption, while his kids run off bridges at 300mph and overdose on heroin.

The distance political power puts people from society isn't for everybody.

It's related to fapping in some way, isn't it? -.-
Actually, I suppose that might appeal to Foley as mentioned in the OP.

People with lower moral standards are often the ones who run for office to begin with. Perhaps we should go with that idea (Utopia was it?) that anyone who wants to lead should be automatically be barred from it.

But that wouldn't be very democratic so I guess we, the public, need to figure out who the jerks are and keep them out...
