Micronations

Well, I just delighted myself reading about Sealand, The Kingdom of Lovely, and other 'Micronations', and have fancied founding my own online.

I figure I could create political parties, an electoral system (And thus have elections), and a military running out of My friend and I's houses. The question is, what do you think of the Idea ?

As long as you pay your taxes, no one will bother you.

If you're in the UK, that's treason.

Plus it doesn't sound that good, to be honest.

At times HRP did not pay taxes, and certainly Department of Territories internal government documents posted on the HRP website indicate that the province is not bound to pay taxation.

You want to know something amazing?

I am, in all actuality, the 102nd Caliph of Islam.

I declared my town a Caliphate, and since it's 100% Muslim everyone agreed. Now, the town of *bleep* is the Caliphate of Icovir (really)!

*grabs his rifle* I wouldn't miss it for the world. We should make it in Texas, since its treaty of annexation to the US allows it to secede at any moment it wants to.

Ahhh, back when Texas was a republic. I think the U.S was better back then, even if it was racist. lol, j/k

That's because back then, if you fail in life you can pick up and move somewhere else farther west... Wait...

Just as a note: I was just kidding. I'm one of the 30 (or probably more) Muslims in a [roughly] 66,190-person town.

Care to quote where in the treaty it says that? I believe Texas can secede, but I believe any state can secede.

In fact, here's a link to the treaty. (http://www.yale.edu/lawweb/avalon/texan05.htm)

I've played purely online micronations before. Basically a simulation of a micronation, run through an internet forum, which holds a fictional piece of land and fictional sovereignty.

There's always a constitution, legislatures, judiciaries, executives, an economic system, and polls showing the opinions, needs, and wants of the "people" of the country. And it's always a really fun game.

I'm a citizen of Lovely, but that's as far as I go. The fact is that a lot of Micronations, especially the e-Nations, are just lame. There's no point to any of them other than supposedly grown-up people playing 'King of the Castle'.

And Icovir, I think you'll find that _I_ am 'l-Qalif... *reigns*

Not so true, you know. It may say the words, but they did not stand up to Supreme Court scrutiny. (Texas v. White, 1869 -- link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_v._White))

It further held that the Constitution did not permit states to secede from the United States, and that the ordinances of secession, and all the acts of the legislatures within seceding states intended to give effect to such ordinances, were "absolutely null".

Actually, it doesn't even say it in the treaty, although I disagree with Texas v. White.

In all honesty, I didn't feel like digging through the treaty, so I took him at his word. Meh.

As for Texas v. White, Salmon Chase was under a lot of pressure from Reconstructionists to rule against the secessionists. The legal basis for the ruling is shaky, at least from my reading, and it might very well be overturned next time it's brought up to the court. (When I'm elected governor of California and start the drive toward Western Secession. :) )
