A few questions...

All of them are pretty 1984-esque, so I'll let you guys decide. The story is about a girl who gets sent to an uber-fundie boarding school.

First things first... what would the name of the school be? I've been having a hard time coming up with a name that will sound good.

Should the school be all-girl or co-ed?

And here's some endings:
1) Janie receives advice from the pastor, and goes to chapel on Easter Sunday. She converts back to Christianity for good.
2) Janie goes to chapel Easter Sunday after talking to the pastor. She pretends to convert and later reveals that she is still maltheist.
3) Janie converts for real, then when she comes home dies in a car accident.

Well?

I recommend that the name be "Winniport School for Girls", which obviously means that it would be an all-girls school.

I like the third ending best.

Winniport? Why Winniport?

Winniport? Why Winniport?

1. It's pretentious.
2. It's stereotypically girly.
3. It's amusing to me. ;)

Grace Christian Boarding School for Young Women, or something like that. It has to have Christian in the name somewhere.

Well?

Not the best selection, but I'd go with 2.

I like your school name best.

But option 3 seems kind of... I don't know... blunt. Or, perhaps... *goes into crazy author-thinking mode*

It should be an all-girl school, that way you can emphasize the gender stereotypes fundamentalists would like to enforce.

I like the third ending. Make sure it's sudden and with no commentary added.

Co-ed.

Dammerville Highschool.

Don't really like any of those endings.

I dunno, I have trouble taking a heroine named Janie seriously. If you're set on something dull, go with Jane. I like the second ending, becuase it says something about her character and the ambiguity of beliefs and such. The third one semms pretty random. If you want to use it make sure you know WHY you're using it - what are you trying to accomplish?

I'm partial to Vilescere as the name of the school.

That's exactly why I liked that ending. The moral ambiguity. It isn't clear what the moral of the story is.

Ooo, good one. I'd change 'School' to 'Academy' though.

It's been done a million times - there's not much shock value or originality left. Being a bit more careful and deliberate would get a better end result. If the book contains themes or discourse domains that relate to sudden and meaningless death, you could make meaning out of it. But just killing off the main charachter for no reason, with no relevant prior material and no commentary after seems like a bit of a cop-out.

Janie converts, and so gives her sould to JEsus when earlier in the story she didn't believe JEsus was the Son of God and hated God. She didn't really believe in heaven either so killing her off would kind of create a question of where she could go afterward.

What denomination of uber-fundie are we talking about? AoG? Southern Baptist? Lutheran? It all depends.

Or, if you are being generic, Holy Faith Girl's Academy or something like that.

#2 has possibilities depending on how dystopian your story is.

Great name.

What do Maltheism, Dystheism, and Eutheism entail, exactly? Which one you choose could be a big factor in determining how your story goes.

Sacred Heart School for Young Ladies

And I says option 3.

No, Sacred Heart sounds too Catholic. This is supposed to be a fundie school, right?

Baptist/Methodist. I like Sacred Heart better that Holy Faith.

What do Malthism, Dystheism, and Eutheism entail, exactly? Which one you choose could be a big factor in determining how your story goes.

Maltheism and Dystheism both state that God exists and he is evil, Eutheism states that God exists and he is good.

In addition, there are misotheists, who hate God.
