I'm not afraid to admit I've had several babies in my home from time to time. To be blunt -- their hygiene is appalling. They bogart the attention of every nearby female despite a lack of witty anecdotes or any other valid reason. What they eat looks like what I'd throw up. They don't own an even semi-stylish outfit.

I really think we need to expand in population if we are ever going to compete with the growing economic powerhouse that is China.

well yes, but this is one reason to have such large families, so that those factors don't claim an entire generation. the american pioneers did the same thing: have lots of kids so that some grow old enough to support you. time-honoured tradition, are the big families. God said, "Go forth and multiply" with the legal subtext "God Inc. is not responsible for assuring old-age plans."

Actually that doesn't always hold true. In the Phillipines, for instance, there is an excellent education system but little or no economic oppurtunity. So many Phillipinos end up going to the United States as well as other countries.

And I'm saying it's a lousy tradition. It worked fine when there was space for all of your kids to spread out and try their hand, but that's not the situation in some of the parts of Africa that have the highest populations.

When my wife and I were still engaged, I had to go to the Catholic Church's Engaged Encounter weekend. My wife is Catholic (I am not) and she wanted to get married at the Church she was baptized in, so I assented.

Anyway, even there, we were told of the religious views against artificial contraception, but we got a lesson in Natural Family Planning. It basically uses the tools of ovulation prediction that fertility doctors promote, along with mucous membrane consistency, to show when NOT to have sex in order to prevent conception. All in all, it was a very good lesson, and it came from the Holy See -- the biggest anti-contraceptive group you can find.

So all you people who are saying that contraception interferes with God's plan of packing people onto the surface of the planet like sardines (I'm thinking specifically of Trinityness, but also others), I'm calling bullshit. Contraception does not end with birth control pills, condoms, and abortion. Those are tools, yes. But to deny any others is ignorant. THAT is why education is so important.

It basically uses the tools of ovulation prediction that fertility doctors promote, along with mucous membrane consistency, to show when NOT to have sex in order to prevent conception. All in all, it was a very good lesson, and it came from the Holy See -- the biggest anti-contraceptive group you can find.

So all you people who are saying that contraception interferes with God's plan of packing people onto the surface of the planet like sardines (I'm thinking specifically of Trinityness, but also others), I'm calling bullshit. Contraception does not end with birth control pills, condoms, and abortion. Those are tools, yes. But to deny any others is ignorant. THAT is why education is so important.

Overpopulation occurs in areas were the population exceeds the ability produce food for a given population. This also depends on availablity of technology as well. Asia for example does not have an overpopulation problem. Sure, there are billions of people there, but the climate and technology to support them.

Africa, specifically populations that live on the edges of deserts do have a population problem in spite of the fact that only a few million people live there.

The first step is no more welfare to anyone and please do not give to "humanitarian" charities. This way only people who can afford babies will have them.
