HEHE. FUCKING BRILLIANT.

Reminds me of some of the 911 (Emergency service) calls that are reported in.

operator [op]: 911 what is the emergency
Woman: I'm locked in my car and the battery is dead...
op: Pardon me ma'am, you said you are locked IN your car?
Woman: yes, I'm locked in my car and the power is out... I can't get out.
OP: Have you tried the door handle?
Woman: yes, the doors are locked...
OP: ma'am... look at the lock... can you see the top of the lock?
Woman: (pause) yes... oh my god... I'm so embarrassed, oh God!!!
OP: So you can get out now
Woman: Yes, I'm outside now... thank you... Oh God, I'm So Embarrassed!!!

... I know this is off topic, but... assuming you're referring to women as a whole, I think children will interpret them differently than adults. Not sure whether you're referring to pornography or fashion magazines or both, but in either case children are more likely to be gullibly manipulated by pornography into thinking of women as sluts than adults, for adults they'd have to have that mindset to begin with... same with fashion magazines manipulating people into that appearance is more important for women than for men. Assuming degrading means slanderous, it's sort of similar to violent video games like GTA... they're degrading to police officers because they make up lies that obviously Rockstar couldn't believe (judging the GTA series based on GTA2 in which the police can't recognize suspicious behaviour) to make it more controversial to get more profit, just like porn sites lie about women always being out for sex to make it more exciting to get more profit, when they probably neither believe it nor is their goal necessarily to decieve people but to make money. However, it's kept out of the hands of children because it's less reasonable to expect adults to be fooled than to let kids be fooled. Though all the same, I have a feeling you weren't just referring to slander but to something else...

The quote was not about what people may or may not think. It was about degrading women (how many do you think actually WANT to show off their body for reasons other than they need the money?). Degrading means, in my opinion, reducing a person's value (or suggesting the reduction of a person's value) to that of an object, be it a sex object or any other object. Even if the women in so-called "men's magazines" actually want to show off their bits, look at the way they're talked about. If it wasn't for laws regarding publications, they'd almost certainly be going as far as to call them sluts, cum-sluts, and all kinds of stuff that treats them as value-less human beings. They talk about the women as though they are objects, to the extent that they can get away with by law, and the quote was referring to the fact that people complain about children being able to see such magazines, but that it's apparently O.K. for adults to degrade women.

You may consider it degrading to women but not everybody does. Also you really can't compare a model who wants to pose and say its degrading.

Apparently you've never come across any websites where people who aren't getting paid post naughty pictures. Obviously there's at least some women who do enjoy it.

How did a thread about an unfunny picture turn, after a quote that wasn't made, into a discussion on degrading women?

In my eyes, posing = not degrading.

Being nude = not degrading.

Being nude and posing = not degrading

Being nude, posing for sexual pictures, and being referred to in terms that suggest you are an object who's only function is sexual activity whether you like it or not = DEGRADING

Well, not if...No, wait, you're still in Middle School or something. I was thinking, when you're in High School, send the term "asspanther" back to middle school.

Ah, so you're referring to it being degrading to INDIVIDUAL women... my apologies. Also, I'm glad you didn't become hostile like you seemed to do unnecessarily a few times in the false rape accusations thread. Anyway, remember, there are men portrayed in porn as well, and it's not like readers are degrading the women just by looking at the magazines, I thought the quote was referring to magazines that are degrading to women as a whole, and how children shouldn't be allowed to look at such magazines because they're more likely to be misled by those magazines into thinking of women as "sluts" and stuff like that... but looking at it doesn't degrade women, making it does. And if your complaint IS about making it, shouldn't animated porn (Eg. Anime Hentai) not involving real women be considered an exception? Anyway, yeah that is off topic and maybe I should've saved it for another thread... maybe another thread should be created about it... anyway for now I'll just say I somewhat agree with Wiztopia and Soviet Haaregrad...

1. When (if?) I was hostile in the referenced thread, it was because I needed to be to get point(s) across to stubborn people.

2. Deliberately looking at such magazines because of their content is indirectly takeing part in the degradation, by suggesting that such publications are acceptable (and thus, that degrading women is acceptable). And yes, I know their are men's magazines now, but from what I've seen and heard, women get treated like objects more than men do. I'll start on advocating better rights for men when there are better rights for women.

3. Anime/hentai is a bit of a grey area to me - on the one hand it's "just" a cartoon, on the other hand the pictures of women are still representations of women, thus perhaps still suggesting that treating women like objects is fine - and if you don't object to such hentai, does that mean you also don't object to cartoon child porn?
