Your Top Impressive But Utterly Useless Skill

What's the best thing you can do that is in some way kinda impressive yet utterly, completely useless?

Or, even better, have you actually found a use for your awesome but utterly useless skill?

Me, I can list the 50 US states, in alphabetical order, in under 20 seconds.

I have yet to find a use for that. :p

I can hammer a nail straight into my face through one of my sinuses and hang objects from it. It's a weird freak show trick that I learned how to do by ignoring the "don't try this at home" warning on a TV show. I can also stop a metal bladed fan with my tongue.

Are you that stupid or do you do it just for me now? Of course, the trick is in the "and then some (more)". Not stupid! Bad phrasing on your part. *nod*

I've mentioned this before: I can name every song that went to #1 on the US pop charts from July 9, 1955 ("Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley and the Comets) onward to today ("My Love" by Justin Timberlake). The only problem is that online I can't prove I'm doing it from memory, and not just looking it up. Prove that you're doing it from memory! :p

I have what has been termed a "phonographic" memory, which functions particularly well when applied to music. Generally, once I have sung a piece twice, I will know it perfectly and forever. In the case of particularly long or complex choral pieces, I may have to sing them four or five times before they are absolutely locked into my brain for all eternity. This talent is not strictly useless, but since choral singers rarely have to memorize anything, its most frequent practical application is to grant me the ability to sing along to songs on the radio that I have not heard in 15 years and never liked in the first place. :p

Because of my odd ability to remember practically anything I've ever heard and attempted to replicate, I also have such useful talents as being able to sing the entirety of Tom Lehrer's "Elements Song" at tempos limited only by my need to breathe, being able to recite the prologue of the Canterbury Tales in perfect Middle English (hey, you never know when that'll come in handy!), and being able to speak a smattering of all the languages of Middle Earth (which, oddly enough, has come in very handy indeed).

Due to an accident as a kid, there’s a big gap between my index and middle finger. It’s only really useful for making horrible, horrible chords on a guitar or piano.

I can tie knots with my tounge. Which is a common bar trick with a cherry stem, but usually performed by ladies.

However, I tie them in string, and I can also untie those same knots in the same manner.

Still can't think of any useless skill I might have. :(

I'm really good at using a yo-yo. When I was a kid I used to win competitions.

Cheers man. A lot of people find it too freaky to look at, though I can’t understand why.

And I’m sure you’re uniquely useless in some way, IV :)

I used to be able to swear in inuit. Now I'm resigned to merely be able to spin a pen around my thumb.

I can do some fabulous things with my tongue, but I wouldn't call them "useless skills"...!

Wouldn't Pingu be at the South Pole? And the Inuits at the North?

cool, does it hurt?

i broke my little finger on my left hand a good while ago, never went to get it fixed or anything so it mended a bit wrong. basically means i have no smooth movement in the knuckles of that finger. great for hammering on frets (it's like i have a ratchet in the finger) but it can be a bit awkward for normal quick fret navigation.

Nah, it just means i can almost do the splits with my fingers and some weird power chords. I’ll probably get some horrible arthritis in my joints later on down the line....

And dunno if this is useless either, but I can tell increments of, say, 50 metres by sight. Can be handy sometimes, but not very often. That's not useless at all - you'll always be able to avoid being ticketed for driving too close behind another car.

Is it some sort of crazy thumb trick club? Because, if anyone actually noticed my first post in this thread, I could totally join. Actually, it's a club for all those with weird bodily skills. So feel free to join, I guess. :p

You must have quite interesting definitions of both "impressive" and "useless".
