First off, don't be a dick. Second off, there's another thread that's kinda-sorta about this already. Third off, I am obligated by the fact that I live in Columbus to root for the Buckeyes. I am not obligated to be happy with the fans who torch couches, tip cars, and write letters to the editor blasting the team after it wins.

Actually, that's konnichi wa... But staying on-topic.

I'm not sure which team will win. I'm pretty impartial, as I like both OSU and Michigan. Being a Pitt fan, I don't really have any favorites in the Big Ten. When I watch this game, I wan't it to be a hell of a fight, and I really don't care who wins... Although, I guess I do have a slight slant towards Ohio State, as I've seen Michigan referees and clock keepers cheat far too many times (remember that game against Penn State where they cheated to keep them from having a perfect season?).

And, being a Pitt fan, I realise that my team hasn't done so great this year. Poor Tyler Palko, he has absolutely no supporting cast...

"Our group would like to extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt prayers to the Schembechler family on their loss," said Bo Biafra, the group's lead singer, at an afternoon gathering at the 1,700-seat Newport Music Hall across from the OSU campus.

Michigan's still #2 in the BCS, so even if Florida and USC win out, it might be a rematch in the title game. A close win by the Buckeyes was seen as the only possible way for a rematch, since the Buckeyes had home-field advantage, said to be worth about three points...incidentally, the Buckeyes won by three points.

On the other hand, I can do a happy dance because my alma mater wrapped up their first bowl bid in 38 years this past weekend...

It was a good game. After those two fumbles, I was just waiting to see how OSU would beat themselves. Fortunately, they got their act back together and held on.

As far as the overall record, 57-40 is going to be hard to straighten out, but Jim Tressel looks like the coach to do it.

Most of that margin is from the dark ages of college football, though, when Michigan had an actual progam and Ohio State...well, didn't. Factor that out, and factor out the John Cooper era, and Ohio State pulls even and probably goes ahead.

Michigan won 13 of the first 15 games in the series (two games ended in ties.) For most of that time, Ohio State wasn't in the Big Ten. OSU got their first win over Michigan in 1919. I believe the series record is 57-40-6 for Michigan. To be fair, I will factor everything before 1918, the first year both teams were in the Big Ten, out. Michingan actually won in 1918, but taking away those first 12 wins and two ties, the series pulls to 45-40-4, or pretty close to even. At the rate Tressel's beating Michigan (5-1 against UM so far) the gap should be closed easily within 10 years. Assuming the Buckeyes win six of the next nine games, after 2015 it will be 48-46-4 since 1918 and 60-46-6 all-time.

If I were to take it further, John Cooper was 2-10-1 against Michigan; that combined with his difficulty winning bowl games was why he was run out of town. It's also a reason Tressel is hailed; he's 5-1 against Michigan and 4-1 in bowl games. Without Cooper's record, Michigan is only ahead 47-38-5, not an insurmountable margin.

That said, I wonder how long it will be for Lloyd Carr if he can't beat Ohio State.

I'm really not sure. He wasn't really outcoached in this game, his players were outplayed. However, if this trend continues they may start shopping around.

Anyway, as far as I'm concerned this game was the national championship. OSU or UM would thrash any other team so Glendale is going to be just a formality.

Really, the team wasn't outplayed by that much, either; they hung in there. Few teams can do that against Ohio State. Illinois came the closest, but even they played catch-up for the entire game. And frankly, if Carr can't learn to beat Ohio State some, then Michigan will look for someone better to coach the team, since losing to Ohio State year after year will become frustrating. As far as I know, no Michigan coach has continuously lost to Ohio State. Bo Schembechler and Gary Moeller did reasonably well against the Buckeyes, but they have no equivalent to John Cooper.

Anyway, as far as I'm concerned this game was the national championship. OSU or UM would thrash any other team so Glendale is going to be just a formality.
