I've come to the conclusion that I can't stand ITunes. I'm looking to upgrade, and the IPod Video does look nifty, but I really don't want another to use ITunes. Anyone know of an alternative to the IPod? Something in the price range of an IPod.

Doesn't that also need a program to transfer the music?

Uhm.. an Ipod nano?

Seriously though, google 'open source ipod software'. I have an ipod and I have never used Itunes. I use a plugin on my winamp instead. I also have another probram if I want to get a bit more involved than merely placing and removing tracks.

It comes with the software, just pop in the CD and you're ready to go.

I have a Zen Touch 20GB, and I love it. I can get like 20-25 hours on a charge, the sound quality is fantastic, and best of all, it isn't an iPod.

I'm getting a Zune. They look to be quite good, from my perspective.

I have a Creative Zen Xtra (I think), and it works fine, although its software sucks.

Anything but an Ipod though. I do my best to avoid Mac products. The Steve Jobs Reality Distortion Field really pisses me off.

Creative's software isn't fabulous, but I think it does the job. File transfer, playlist, and a sync function is about all I'll ever use, so I have no complaints. I don't want a Zune because I don't trust MSoft to write a mobile OS that doesn't end up simply being Windows Media Center Jr. But I definitely hate the iPod. So I think when the time rolls around for a new media player, I'll move to a Zen Vision M.

I use a Creative MuVo. 1 Gig, but that's enough for me. I like it because the MuVo connects directly to your pc, no cables required. and use can use explorer to move the files on or off.

no special headphones needed, and it can double as a thumbdrive.

They are just Microsoft iPod. They have the same nazi system of music sharing, in fact it is even more nazi. Go with Creative Zen or RCA if you want a big MP3 player.

Well I looked into Creative...

Right now I'm considering the Zen Vision:M, and the Zune. But I heard the Zune requires an ITunesesque service, is that true?
