I am laying here in bed, typing on my portable (not a laptop because it gets too hot for your lap) and i am sick, I just woke up from being asleep for 4 hours (give or take) and I am hungry.

when I am sick I tend to have a very low threshold for BS......and I get defensive, which is why I am posting this thread instead of debating elsewhere.

what are you like when you are sick?

Usually when I'm sick I'm all done up on Nyquil, but my boyfriend says I'm pretty whiny. Actually, come to think of it, that's me all the time...

cranky and easy to piss off (same thing?)

don't get whiney though a bit too much effort for a sick person in my view

edit: don't hurt me

my husband is a whiney sick person...

"can I get you anything?"
"it's hot in here"
"I will turn on the fan"
"but then I will be cold"
"I will get you a blanket"
"but that will cancel out the fan"
:headbang:

it's not pretty when we are sick at the same time.

Boy, does that sound familiar...

As for being sick at the same time, do you have a separate room you can seclude yourself in?

I'm not really any different when I'm sick - temperamentally, at least.

i get annoyed at myself. cuz i only seem to get ill when i have stuff to do. and i only have the motivation to do stuff when i'm too ill to do it.

i don't generally mention that i'm ill unless well-being comes up in conversation. if i do start complaining though, i get annoying and don't stop til someone offers some sympathy. which is rarely. which is annoying cuz i'm all sympathy when any of my friends are ill.

I am hiding in my bedroom, he is hiding in the living room. Luckily the kids didn't pick up our sickness weakness, they are just sleeping, if I keep them stocked with ice water they seem content.

I am mad at him now, but I can't figure out if it's because I am sick or if he is being annoying.

My sense of humor gets stranger when I'm sick, I know that. All things considered I'm not bad when I'm sick... except that when my nose is clogged up I snore, loudly. Very, very loudly. My poor wife usually has to retreat to another room to try and sleep.

When I'm sick it is best you stay as far away from me as possible. When I'm sick I'm not in the mood for any sort of talk, I don't want you in my presence, I don't want you to ask me any questions or suggestions I just want to be left alone in my room, lights off under the covers in complete silence.

If I am bothered I burst into a rage of anger even I don't understand. I turn into something just short of a monster.

Im a very stoic sick person. I usually do all my duties and obligations anyway, I just bitch about it constantly inwardly. Its seems Im numb to boredom and restlessness when sick so I can do things I hate doing with greater ease than when Im well.

yeah, that's me until I get pushed to 'that point' for example I have been sick for about a week, but today I show up with a 103 temp......that's my breaking point apparently.

I think my cold has officially turned into something bad.

Probably a bit of both. My mother used to make us a hot water with honey and lemon, and add a shot of whiskey. Put us kids out like a light. :D

Did you get a flu shot yet? Its really best to get them, and many places offer them for free on certain days. My college had a flu shot day a few weeks ago for the whole community...Too bad I do not take innoculations well.

ah, my kids are allergic to whiskey* (me too, very sad)

my husband and I had this conversation

"are you hungry?"
"yeah"
"want me to fix you something?"
"will you go to Mc Donalds?"
"If you are really sick you wouldn't want Mc Donalds"

really sick?! I have a 103 temp of course I am really sick. how the freak do you fake a fever?!

although I might have misread his tone and he might have meant that he thought Mc Donalds would make me feel worse.

*not that they have ever had any but they are allergic to something in it.

I dunno. I very rarely get sick, and when I do, I tend to carry on doing whatever regardless.

what are you like when you are sick?depends on the illness.

Flu - I tend to be sluggish, short tempered and snippy.

Congestion - Irritable.

Migrane (ok, technically not an illness) - Don't F*#KING TALK TO ME!

Diverticulitus - "Just let me lie here and die... please!"

and I'll add my remedies to all the others...

a Heating pad at your lower back, lots of fluids (Sports drinks are the best... they hold alot of things your body does need besides water.) sleep/rest. Honey/Lemon herbal tea... and from what I've heard... backrubs from Hubby... lots of backrubs from hubby. ;)

I believe that I am the perfect patient, being kind, calm, and thankful for the help I get.

;) I'm told that the reality is that I am whiney and cranky.

I'm easily annoyed, whiney and cranky. I'm barely tolerable normally so imagine me sick.

I hate being sick. Just thinking about it is annoying me and I want to whine about how cranky it makes me.

I'm an isolationist. Just leave me alone when I'm sick. Leave the hot tea, the soup, medications, tissues, what have you, within reach and GO AWAY.

I also need to have unfettered, unrestricted access to the bathroom AT ALL TIMES, when I'm ill.

I want to watch TV, read, vegetate and. occasionally, throw up, when I'm sick. I don't want sympathy or conversation, just quiet solitude.

I get incredibly mean and easily pissed off. I like to spread misery while I have it.

No I lock myself in my room so I don't piss off too many people.

I can be whiny when I want tho...but it is usually just because I really don't want to make my own food. As soon as they drop off my food, it is back to superass.

When I get sick, I strip naked and sit myself on the daybed in front of the bay window. Especially if it's a sunny day. Fix myself up some hot tea with brandy and a big bowl of cayenne stew. But i'm never sick for more than a day, otherwise the neighbors would think it's wierd.

Basically I take care of myself and spoil myself rotten. Other than that, I don't whine or complain or get crabby. I just make sure nobody gets too close.

It rather depends on my symptoms. If I have a sore throat or any loss of voice, I quickly get very, very cranky - singing has always been a big part of how I deal with stress, so when I can't sing, it's not good for my mood at all.

If I've missed out on the sore throat but have other fairly major symptoms, I generally just get rather gloomy. (Except, of course, on the occasions when I've had fevers high enough to start hallucinating - that's happened during in two separate illnesses, and in retrospect it's quite amusing. The worst was the time in college when I was truly, deeply terrified that my mini-refrigerator was very slowly advancing towards my bed to kill me. Your brain does weird things when you're running a 105-degree fever...) :p

Depends on the type of sickness. If it's just an extension of my allergies, I'm more or less the same as I am now. Fevers and intense headaches tend to lead to a very short temper and very little patience. Luckily, I manage to be incredibly cute when I'm really sick so I always have my mom or some other person caring for me, which I like.

Well usually when I'm sick its because of the stomach flu or a very high fever. When that happens its really easy for people to make me do things for them because I'm too miserable to try and resist. Either that or I just stare at a wall all day. I remember in high school when I got a 104 degree fever my dad made me go to school anyway because he told me that it wouldn't matter if I stayed home or not because I would feel better eventually (yea after two weeks).

I got hit by the flu 2 times in 4 weeks and i was absolutly wasted because of it, all my energy was gone and it was hard to breath.
But it didn't stop me from working.

I cant really remember the last time I got really sick. I dont think I've gotten anything more than a cold in about the last 10 years. Unfortunately I get those all the time though, so when I do I'm usually just a bit cranky and hard to talk to.
