The Whole "Countries" Thing...

I don't understand it tbh. And I'm willing to admit that.

I mean, what good does keeping the Manufactured Borders do us? A hundred years ago there might have been a point- but the World is so much smaller now.

I mean, you may talk of different Cultures, and how ways of Life differ so fantastically, but walk down a Street in London or New York and you'll see people from all walks of life co-existing peacefully (for the most part... the minority of extremists are just that- extremists).

And I know there's an argument that we Humans need an other group of Humans to hate and vent our anger out so that we can function as a Society. But, I ask you, is that REALLY a valid excuse? It sounds suspiciously like thinly veiled Racism to me.

I heard a while back on these Forums that a guy was madly in love with this Indonesian Girl (I think she was from Indonesia). But, they couldn't be together because the Australian Government wouldn't let the Girl back into the Country, makign both of them very, very cheesed off.

IMHO, that argument alone completely destroys the entire argument for keeping Humanity divided. But that's just me.

So, what are your opinions?
I'm genuinely interested in hearing how someone defends this.

P.S.: I'm aware that this has probably been done a Million times, but I haven't been there to see it. *New*

I kind of like the idea of a border where one nation's laws end. Imagine if there were no borders and we all had to live under a kleptocratic, brutal dictator like Mugabe or under repressive religious theocracy like in Saudi Arabia. That would suck. If we can't abolish such regimes at least borders keep them contained.

I agree; the world would be much better off if it was controlled by the US, Great Britain, Germany, etc., rather than having multiple countries. It puts us all at an economic and social disadvantage if there are.

Hmmm, I see where you're coming from. But if you think about it, if we were to be under one Government (based in New York?), it couldn't be a Theocracy or a Dictatorship, as it'd be too big to control like that.

For instance, if the USA was a Dictatorship, it would probably have fallen apart years ago. It's their democracy and freedom that has kept them going (I'm aware of the Cliché there...).

Borders exists as a symbol of an advance civilization. It's a way of denoting where one's territorial claim ends and another begins.

While borders cause problems, the problems stem from how the borders were drawn following the end of World War I. That's when many colonies left their masters, and the Middle East was chopped up in such a way that it didn't recognise natural cultural boundaries.

Hmmm, in my eyes an even more Advanced Civillisation is one that has completely renounced the idea of Territorial Claims.

The only answer is Global Domination.

*sighs wishfully about the good old days*

and who gets to say what the government is and I'm not too keen on China and India having all the voting power (with that said anyway to tackle this issue would be just as bad)

Also what your describing is freedom of movement and such not related to borders too much, more to do with Australia trying to keep its wildlife and habitat (there are already too many good Australians cricketers darn it!)

I've always wanted to take over the world, then let all the countries run themselves like normal, just because.
