Yup. It's real: A T-Shirt that makes music. The dream of all wannabe Bon Jovi freaks everywhere has finally come true!
Hi tech T-shirt really rocks

It's called the WIS - the Wearable Instrument Shirt - and it is tipped to make the air guitar as obsolete as the horse and cart.

Scientists at the CSIRO's Textile and Fibre Technology division in Geelong have woven electronic sensors into a T-shirt so that it can be played liked a real guitar.

Movements by the wearer's arms are mapped and beamed by radio to a computer which interprets them and turns them into musical notes.

The wearer only has to act out playing the instrument to make sounds.

"The left arm chooses a note and the right arm plays it," said Richard Helmer, a CSIRO chemical engineer who led the project. The arrangement can be reversed for left-handed musicians.

"You can play with yours hands above your head," said Dr Helmer. "You can turn around and jump. Whatever you like."

Good to see Aussie tax dollars being out to work on important inventions. And no, I'm not being sarcastic here. I really do mean it's a cool concept!

Didn't air guitars go out in the late 80's?

Haven't you heard of the world air guitar champs?

This is actually a cool invention. I wonder if they'll make other instruments, like oboe, violin, keyboard or something.

That's modern science for ya. Can't cure world hunger, but can make a bunch of wanna-be rockers spazz in the street. If they make a t-shirt that can emit smell, they could be used as self-defense methods. Such as the ever-popular 'Gym Locker' scent. That's potent!

Anyone watch the accompanying vid to the OP link? (I couldn't until now, cause realplayer ain't installed on the school comps)
It's even cooler than I imagined.

It's prob not the sort of shirt one would want to wear if one was a ninja sneaking onto a top secret research facility.

If an epiletic wore one, s/he may well create an incredible Jimi Hendrix solo just by having a fit.

I think playing an 'air harp' would make you look quite insane:)

Actualy way to go them , making clothing that detects movement and position of the person is actualy a pretty cool step forward. They picked a project that was not TOO hard but made them achive a higher goal then previously and did a rather unique proof of concept. Now from here they will pick something more complicated such as controlling a computer or something along thoes lines.

You seem to be implying said sanity hasn't already been eroded beyond all repair....

I didn't notice the vid the first time around. That's even cooler! :)
