I've been dating this guy for a month and I've kinda ripped off his cooking style.
I've never been particularly good at actually coming up with somthing to cook and tend to cook the same things all the time but he has this whole thing where he just kinda takes random stuff and throws them together and I've been trying that on my own (I actually made some awesome soup) of course I add cheese to stuff... he's vegan so he doesn't.

"just adding things together"? at my college, they got a name for that, but I've never seen it spelled.

Ok, good that it's not particularly odd. I mean, I generally figure that if someone can do something better than me, I should try to imitate their way of doing things, with my own touch.

Well, he's only a dietary vegan and even then he'll eat honey because he doesn't give a fuck about insects.
I'm vegetarian so it's nice to date a guy who doesn't eat meat. Every other guy I've dated has...

Greens are for small furry animals.
Small furry animals are for us, or for larger furry animals. In which case the larger furry animals are for us.

Feathery animals have a similar hierarchy.

Greens are for people too, we're not strictly carnivores and can do just fine without meat. Try going without veggies and see how good that is for you.

I like to cook that way too, and the results are almost always awesome. Of course, my ingredients usually include a pound of red meat (for each serving) and generous amounts of tabasco, ground pepper, and garlic, so they couldn't possibly fail.

Now that we're talking about recipes, I have to mention my special rolls. They are just regular wheat rolls, but with three tablespoons of tabasco added into the dough. They leave a wonderful warm feeling into the mouth; if you're into baking, you should try.

Actually, humans can be pretty healthy with diets ranging from exclusively plant based to exclusively meat-based. Somewhere in the middle is the 'most healthy' for most people.

How on earth would one get all their vitamins eating only meat? I also can't imagine going to the bathroom on an meat-only diet to be a pleasant experience.

The only thing you can't get from plants is B12, which isn't a problem if you eat dairy and eggs. It also wouldn't be a problem if we didn't have to wash veggies due to pesticides and the like as there would be enough B12 from that...

To clear all this up, humans are omnivorous. So we 'need' both plants and meat to survive. Though protein from beans can be substituted for protein in meat.. and I really have no clue what I am talking about besides the fact that humans are omnivorous. So we can eat both and get nutrients from either. We just aren't limited to one or the other.

I'm not sure, ask the Inuit. =p

Men's Health did an article on it a few months ago, sending one of their editors to get a bunch of diagnostics done on himself, he claimed to 'never eaten vegetables since he left home'. In the end, he was well within average health.

I'm off to work now, so I'll find out more when I get home.

Yes, we are omnivores, but I don't think we can get everything we need from meat alone I mean, we do need some fibre in our diets and I'm not too sure about vitamin content in meats... veggies, however...

Cooking destroys the vitamin C in meat, but makes it easier to digest and decreases the risk of parasites surviving to enter our gut.

Congrats. you found out how to make what I call Slapdash cooking.

some of my best dishes come out like that. and they are rather special since I don't write anything down so recreating them is rather difficult. :D

Fried Rice is the best form of Slapdash cooking.

No, it's not weird. That's actually how I cook; I can't follow a recipe to save my life. Even if I'm trying something new, I adjust and substitute things to suit my taste. I can't remember the last time I followed a recipe exactly from start to finish without changing anything. It's more fun that way. :)

And my choice is to eat meat. I don't do it as often as I used to, as I've developed a taste for fruits and vegetables. But still, I like the many varieties and ways you can prepare them. I'm partial to grilling, myself.

As for the topic, no, it's not weird at all. Learning to better yourself by watching others is a good thing. I actually cook like that, and I've made some pretty kick-ass stuff. My best is ham pan fried in butter with mashed potatoes (garlic and butter) and two chicken patties with sour cream and cheese.

Ghetto gourmet, sure, but it tastes very good. It's filling, too.

How come we always get a milksop like Moby trotted out as an archetypal vegan all the time, instead of Mac Danzig, Carl Lewis or Woody Harrelson?
