Site goes live!
http://www.nationstates.net/HISTORY

I've only been here for a little over a year myself, but I'm addicted - to the game and the forum. So I thought I'd wish the site a Happy Birthday :D May there be many more.

Thanks to Max Barry and the Mods as well - have some cake and champagne :p

So to make a relevant topic: How long have you been playing, and how did you find the game?

Wow... I've been here more than three years now... and I haven't done anything for a one of them.....

I don't even remember how I found the game, it's become just a bit of a routine to log in, read the most recent threads, be filled with outrage at the state of the world/the number of idiots it contains, and log out every few days.... just something I do.

I've been on since March of 2005, and Vetalia is my original nation. I had others, but they died out and I've just kept this one.

I honestly don't remember how exactly I discovered the game, although I believe a Google search featured prominently. Come to think of it, I think I found it when I was lurking on the CivFanatics board, a board which I long ago left behind for NS (which wasn't a major loss, considering I never posted and I ended up getting bored with Civ 3 in the first place).

Happy birthday, Nationstates!:)

I started playing a long while ago, but then I stopped playing and my nation died from inactivity.

I started playing again as Chandelier in 2005.:)

God, in 17 years if it survives Nationstates will probably be a fully interactive online reality with debates occurring between human-sized avatars in a fully realistic virtual setting.

Feel like having your thread take place in a Parisian cafe? Done. Feeling more like having it set in, I don't know, Ankh-Morpork? Done.

This is my original nation, and I've been playing since Dec 2003.

I followed a link on another forum, and joined with about 60 of my forum-mates from that board. Two of those people still maintain (mostly inactive) nations in my original region. Despite being one of 3 admins on the other site, I've mostly stopped visiting that site and spend most of my online time here.

The thing that makes this site attractive for me is Max's insistence on allowing all viewpoints, even those I personally consider despicable or outrageous. Some of those people manage to generate really interesting debates. Others are just trolls, of course.

Wow.

And to think that when I first joined this forum (sometime around March 2003) the US was embroiled in a messy war with no resolution in sight, the Labour party was desparately courting popularity by swinging ever further to the right, and the Northern Ireland peace process was hanging in limbo.

How things have changed.

I've been playing since... August 2003, I think. On and off.

All of my original nations are dead; Soheran is the first one with an extended foray into the General Forum, and pwns all the others in post numbers.

Edit: Checked. Yes, Aug. 2003.

This is my second nation (the first one was deleted by the mods). I originally joined in April '05 and now have 12,134 posts alltogether. I managed to miss my 10,000th post somehow.

I first heard about NS from a female friend (*sigh*), who'd heard about it in a law lecture at uni.

Then I played NS for a while, until one day I noticed an interesting headline at the bottome left. I clicked on it, and it let me to NSG...what a day that was. The 6th of May 2005...and here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=8821080#post8821080) is my first post. Observe the formatting issues. :D

Happy Birthday.

This isn't my first nation, but it is my first one I took (alarmingly) seriously. I guess I haven't been playing very long in the context of 4 years - less than a third of that time - but it has been interesting to see the changes, and move from being envious of all the oldies sadly mourning the passing of the Golden Age, to sadly mourning the passing of the Golden Age.

In other news, fuck Max Barry for destroying my social life.

I believe it is coming up on two years for me.
My first nation, Chazriel, got that bug where it won't update your issues. But I created Steenia the next day.
I came to play because of a friend on LJ who had a nation mentioned the game. (Her nation ceased along with the region it was in.)
It has been a long strange journey since then, but not one I am willing to give up.

Just saw my join date next to this post- Sept 2004.

Woo! Happy birthday. Four years old, yet no nearer to maturity. :p

Anyway, I've been here far too long...erm, almost three years. Joined in February 04, but my nation died, poor little thing. Don't even remember the name. I think it's buried in a shallow, unmarked grave somewhere in the woods.

This one's been slightly more successful, two years and four months and still going strong. I don't remember how I originally found it - some link somewhere. I created this nation after my brother found the site. So it's him I have to blame for two years of addiction...
