It cost someone 0,000.00 to vote and the vote didn't count.

MIAMI (Reuters) - A Florida voter may have unwittingly lost hundreds of thousands of dollars by using an extremely rare stamp to mail an absentee ballot in Tuesday's congressional election, a government official said on Friday.

and the ballot wasn't even counted because;

"Rodstrom said he did not examine the envelope's postmark, but it had no return address and the ballot was disqualified because it gave no clue as to the identity of the voter."

How sad.

That just outright sucks. My father is a numismatic and my mother accidently once used one of his 1 pound silver reserve notes (Almost looks exactly like a $1 bill.), it was worth $25 then, its worth several hundred now.

He should have just cast the ballot in person or bought some ordinary stamps......

:eek: a postal vote? that man is a fool!

Maybe he voted absentee by mail, absentee in person, at his current poling place, and his former poling place. :eek: Pretty smart, except for the stamps. :)

I can't see why someone would intentionally use such a stamp for postage purposes (other than the a Brewster's millions situation as mentioned by Cannot Think of a Name), but I really do hope it was somehow for whatever reason intentional.

The thought that it might have been an unintended loss upsets me somewhat.:(

How interesting that a purported secret ballot was disqualified because it was, indeed, secret.

its not like the government forced the idiot to stick a $500.000 stamp on the thing. you make it sound like the all oppressive US government charges the populace to vote. its reasoning like that that makes for half the anti-US sentiment in the world today.

mail-in ballots cannot possibly be secret.

If they were, I would just mail in fifty anonymous votes, and they would have no idea that they were all from me.

since I cannot possibly show, via photo id., that I am who I say I am, a valid postmark and return address serve just as well.

If I were to stuff the ballot box using my neighbor's addresses, a problem would be noticed when the registry says that they already voted.

It was probably just some old codger and biddy and their partner just posted in their vote for them as they were infirm, not knowing the value of the stamp. Senility is a real pain... but man.. $500,000 that is harsh. Probably just sitting in a draw from 70 years and thought they better use them. Probably never even knew they were worth anything.... I wonder if they have a whole sheet of them ;)
