What a timely question.

I downloaded firefox last night explicitly for the stumbleupon add-on.

I'm not going to use it as a regular browser until I can get Thunderbird to work, too, and as of now it still refuses to install correctly.

So instead I updated my beloved Netscape - which, before anyone says anything, also has tabbed browsing, that's NOT an exclusive firefox thing.
And I also use Netscape for email, so I only have to open my browser and have everything in one place.

:)

Although Opera is kinda cool. There's something cool about ordering it around through the microphone and seeing it comply. "Opera, speak, bitch!"

Opera. It's far smaller than Firefox, faster, has PROPERLY WORKING tabbed browsing without having to resort to the tabbrowser preferences add-on, and even includes IRC chat, mail and newsgroup capability in that same smaller package. Far more secure than MSIE. Just as easily configured as Firefox with the opera:config "command".

Oh, and it passes the ACID2 test.

Firefox is of Mozilla, and the current Netscape is of Mozilla. The original Netscape and MSIE were (is, in the case of MSIE) based on Mosaic. In fact, pretty much every browser owes its existence to Mosaic insofar as being the pioneer.

EDIT: Wait a sec, I think it might work without the add on. I just tried clicking the link in my sig - that would normally open a new window, surely, since there's no HTML for tabs, but it opened in a new tab alright.

I haven't checked 2.0 yet, so they might have gotten it fixed. The thing of it is that it needed to be fixed, though, whereas it worked properly from the start in Opera. No need to resort to an add-on or right-click-open-in-new-tab.

FF is sloooooooooooow. it takes MUCH RAM, it's support for mouse gestures is crappy at best. It can not open local files with the same elegancy and ease, Konqueror can. And it hast not such a cute logo (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konqi).

who needs cute logos?

Depends on the machine ... Firefox is my biggest use on windows ... on my debian and ubuntu machines I have moved over to iceweasel

How many browsers have you tried?

I have tried IE (6 7 and 7 series) Konquer Opera Links and Lynx as well as iceweasel and firefox (all series through 2.0) as well as mozilla and Netscape navigator

I personally prefer iceweasel/FF out of any of them. Opera aint bad but there are no real features that are not included in FF with a simple plugin any more.

Back when opera had the only real mouse gestures and such then I used it religiously but ... no reason for me to anymore

Kubuntu, but planning to go Gentoo or BSD.

Figures.

If I could find a GNOME, non-rpm, distro that can detect my hard disk (ie not Debian), I'd get rid of Ubuntu. I have to compile way to much.

That was the only feature that I really liked from opera over the others. When FF got thoes too, well bye bye opera
