Well, I'm a huge Simon and Garfunkel fan.

I know no one will believe me on this, but I was fan of theirs before I found out they were Jewish. As fate would have it, I'm a Brother in the same fraternity they were members of.

So what's your favorite Simon and Garfunkel song?

Sound of Silence. First heard it when watching "The Graduate". I loved the haunting paranormal quality of it.

After becoming a fan of Simon and Garfunkel, I was told to see "The Gradute." That movie is so well done. We can thank that movie for Mrs. Robinson.

Sound of Silence, April Come She Will, and Scarborough Fair were on CDs that came out a few years before the movie, but they still fit in very well.

My father used to play all these simon and garfunkel songs when I was a baby, so I have many of them memorized. According to Itunes, my most played is A Bridge Over Troubled Water, I also like The Sounds of Silence, El Condor Pasa, Cecelia and the 59th Street Bridge, mostly from the memories of my parents singing the songs to each other when I was realy little.

I forgot to mention how easy their songs tend to be to play on guitar. You can be an amateur on classical guitar and easily play their songs.

...which would explain why my father played them alot when he was learning guitar. Cool.

I am a pretty big fan too, I picked "the sound of silence" though because I love the harmony in it....

I'd have to say "The Boxer." I even had a demented dream involving a clown which told me that I "lie, lie, lie, lie, etc."

Hazy shade of winter

that's my absolute favorite, but I have to say that Simon and Garfunkel is one of the few bands I can guarantee that I will love at least 90% of their songs (that is very rare: I usually like individual songs rather than artists, but there are very few Simon and Garfunkel songs I've heard that I don't like)

Of those you listed... would be between The Boxer and Sounds of Silence. I went through my Simon and Garfunkel stage .. and came out alive. They are ok.

Always thought S and G were marvelous entertainers and great musicians. Saw the live New York concert on a very nice system and was impressed on all kinds of levels.
Paul Simon is no slouch on guitar !

Hasn't IDF mentioned a couple times that he is Jewish? I think what he meant was that he was a fan before he knew they were Jews, that only made him like them even more.

Thats usually what people mean when they say something like that.

Yeah.. It means that he was even shocked himself that he actually liked non-jews. Turned out, for his benefit.. that they were his kindred after all. Ahh racial unity.

The Boxer. With Runners-up: The Sounds of Silence, Mrs. Robinson, 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy), America, Bridge Over Troubled Water, and My Little Town.

'The Boxer' has gotta be #1.

I was going to put 'Me & Julio' down as well, although I just checked it out, and it's just Simon. My world has been shattered...

I grew up listening to S & G (mum was a huge fan).
I still like them. Some very cool songs.
Also, if you look at this album cover:

And put your finger over Paul Simon's face, it looks like Art's got a huge cossack-style moustache.
How many other easy-listening, folk-song duos can lay claim to that?

Oh tough choice. Of the ones on the poll "the Boxer".

Some other faves: "Richard Cory", "At the Zoo", "Old Friends",

"Seven O'Clock News/Silent Night"

Damned good that one was. Spooky.

I grew up on these guys. :D

I'll be damned, hopefully.

That is the same album my mom has. I used to sit and listen to it as much as possible when I was a kid.

In the clearing stands a Boxer and a fighter by his trade,
and he carries the reminders
of every blow that struck him down
or cut him 'til he cried out in his anger and his shame
I am leaving, I am leaving but the fighter still remains

Pure effing genius.

Actually, it was more shock that there were good Jewish rock musicians beyond Gene Simmons (I'm sorry, but KISS is overrated).

It's like seeing a hall of fame baseball player and finding out he's Jewish. You never expect it.

Get ready to be jelous, ya'll: I got to see Paul Simon last month when he was in Vancouver.

From the list, I chose the Boxer, though my all time favorites are probably Kathy's Song, American Tune, Me and Julio, (Lincoln) Duncan, and one of Paul's newer ones, Old.

"couple in the next room, bound to win a prize, they've been goin' at it all night long"

brilliant, brilliant songwriter.

Folk musicians.

Folk is a form of soft rock.

After all, they ARE in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
