I can live with Charlie Rangel leading the Ways & Means Committee

It's true, I admit it. I've found some of his positions distasteful in the past (specifically a universl draft, for social equality purposes: Ugh) but I can live with him in that spot.

It's gonna be sad not having Ralph Regula as one of the most powerful members of congress any more, that was really kinda cool having my rep be that important, but if that's the price of having divided government for the first time in forever, well, I guess I can pay that price.

You hear that Republican Party? This is what you've done to me over the Bush years! You've driven the moderates away from you, to make the religious nutjobs regulars! Now you run the risk of becoming a regional party, without the moderating influences of folks like Mike DeWine and Lincoln Chafee! You have killed yourself, yes you have. The Great Party of Lincoln runs the risk of sinking into decay and disrepair.

This is the GOP's last chance, in 2008 fiscal conservatives, social moderates and internalists are going to be required to win. If the GOP runs a polarizing member of the religious right, it is the end.

So, boys and girls of the GOP, if you want me and my moderate friends to come back into the fold, you must do it now, or you'll never be able to.

Thank you, and science bless America.*

They have driven the moderates out into the wilderness, haven't they? As soon as some members of the party began referring to others as RINOs (Republicans In Name Only) you should have seen it coming.

As much distaste as I have for the republicans, I know that this is far from true. Parties "rise" and "fall" in a continuous circuit. Do you remember the Reagan elections? The republicans were positive the "corrupt" party was at an end. And yet, here they are again.
