Romania have decided to put a statue of Bram Stoker in Translavania for making the area famous.
i dont like stokers books. i particularly dont like dracula but i'm happy about putting up statues of irish people in other countries. i also think its cool cause i live in the same area of stoker did.

Ever been to Bran Castle (the one where Dracula supposedly lived)? It's rubbish. In the castle grounds themselves, there is (as far as I could see anyway) no mention of Dracula at all. Go to the marketplace just outside the grounds, you can't frikkin' move for having shoddy Dracula merchandise shoved in your face.

On this topic, I remember my ex complaining that dracula was racist or some BS like that, against Romanians... (Of course, like the asshole I am, I laughed at him, an dnow I have a better boyfriend! :p ).

:) that would be because the Bran Castle has been a royal residence (and the Romanian state recently gave it back to the Romanian crown heir... or they gave him the money for it... i can't remember exactly)... anyway the only link between Bran and Dracula is that the historical character Vlad III (Dracula), on whom Stoker's character is based, is supposed to have been imprisoned there a few days...

now there is a less known castle in the Tihuta Pass (and i could get the coordinates if someone could explain to me how to get them off google maps:p ) which has the whole Dracula theme, only about 3 independent shops outside it (last time i've been there) and even some recreated stuff by actors... but since the historical character was actually a ruler of Wallachia, south of Transylvania you can imagine you wont exactly find the real thing there... mainly because there is no real thing
