A Question for the Drinkers...
We all know (well, most of us), that getting drunk on an empty stomach is a bad idea.
My question for everyone is...what is your prefered meal/snack before a night of intended drunken debauchery?
Potatoes. Good soakage there. A sandwich if I was in a rush(bread=major soakage). Milk is meant to be good because it lines the stomach, though I can't claim to have ever tried it.
Also, anything with vitamin C in it is good for preventing a hangover.
Pizza, or a greasy hamburger/fish and chips. Not because it has any expected benefit, just because junk food is teh win.

It depends... I am at the moment a poor starving Uni Student
so getting drunk on an empty stomach has the advantage of being really cheap. Both because you are replacing your meal with a liquid alternative.. and because with an empty stomach you don't need as many drinks to get really drunk.
Its more important to drink water between and after every drink than to eat food as far as the hangover is concerned anyway.

A big greasy fry up is always good, regardless of what you've done before it or plan on doing after it.

I always find it's a fine balance between eating enough to cope with the alcohol and not eating too much leaving enough room for drink
I normally go for the 'not enough' and then use salty bar snacks as the night wears on

something with carbohidrates(spelling?). pasta, bread or pizza.
yoghurt for stomach lining.
eat a banana the next day for potasium.

yeah a fry for breakfast after the night out is an instant hang over cure.
irsh breakfast-egg, rashers, white/pudding, sausages, tomatoes, toast and beans.

Carbohydrates. They be good for the soakage.
Never heard the banana one before.

Hmm. I don't really think about what I'm eating before getting drunk. Whatever I can get my hands on I guess.
pasta. with anything.
but not too much, you don't want to feel sluggish or bloated before going on a night out.

A couple of beers. I don't spend my nights drunk, anymore, but when I did, I never planned far enough ahead to actually eat before/while drinking.
But I'd recommend picking something that you won't mind seeing again.

A nice, spicy curry. This is equally good after a night of drinking. Or during.
Frankly, a decent curry is brilliant whenever.

A small pasta or rice meal, with bread to mop up the sauce.
I prefer pasta, mainly because rice absorbs the alcohol and makes you feel really bloated. However, a curry with rice will taste the same on the way back up as it did on the way down. *nods*

I learned long ago to NEVER have dairy before I drink. Maybe that's just me, but the results aren't pretty.

Which is why I don't eat fast food before drinking anymore...EVER. :p

I agree - not beforehand.
Afterwards though, a milk drink is great. 'specially iced coffee.
food is for the weak. you need no food before drinking

Fish and chips are very good, bannanas also (carbs and potassium)

Pasta. And lots of cheese.
Veggie burger and fries is the best meal. Or some kind of potato.
Never drink on a stomach full of pasta, nachos or chinese food. It does not work.

It depends what you're going to drink. If you're drinking beer then dairy is bad. Milk goes alright with some hard liquors though (just avoid citrus mixers...).

I don't about all that now. One time after a night at a frat party, more like a city party actually since all the frats had a party that night, I had some Sonic. That didn't go over well. I couldn't even open my mouth to put the food in without feeling like I was going to vomit. I beared through it though and it did not feel good. The best thing for a hangover is a couple of beers. Not enough to get a buzz but damn it helps.
Maybe the food didnt have much to do with it though since I probably drank over a quarter of my body weight. At the time it seemed like a good idea.
The best cure for a hangover is to stay drunk. That also applies as to what to have before drinking.DRINK!! DRINK!!! DRINK!!:D

Yeah, but it's cheaper to eat at home before going.

BEFORE a night out drinking? Something I wouldnt mind seeing again hours later. *L*
My days and nights of binge drinking are pretty much over- Its rare that I get loaded anymore. I've had some really awful hangovers in the past- in my early 20s.
I learned to try to drink water or Coke amongst whatever else I was drinking-the dehydration is the most punsihing part of a hangover. I found I could avoid nausea and throbbing headaches by drinking more water/seltzer/coke during the partying.
I also learned to cut off that last one or two drinks that you so often later wish you didnt drink.
AFTER a night out drinking-we used to hit a diner, where I'd order a double bacon cheeseburger with a fried egg on it, and a side of fries with brown gravy and mozzeralla cheese. And several cokes to wash it down.
And last thing before the ineveitable pass-out was to deliberately drink a full glass of water or Coke washing down a few ibuprofen with it.
That seems to have taken the edge off well.
I dont drink to wretched excess anymore.

No such thing here in England. You pay for your bar snacks and they come in nice sealed bags. I'm a personal fan of Nobbys Nuts

The kebab is an essential part of any self respecting British drunkards diet. The fun part is trying not to get the chilli sauce in your eyes when your drunk

Nobbys nuts rule. However, anyone in the pub eating scampi fries should be forced to sit on their own in the corner. By an open window.

Meat and potatoes.. a couple hours before hand. Myself.. I can't even begin to drink when there is food on my stomach (nor can I eat when drinking).. just gotta have it in my gut I guess, so that I don't get sick or too ripped.

I know for sure fat works after the fact (like a good breakfast high in fat/grease -- [the thin sliced meat you put with gravy over toast - can't believe I can't remember the name of it] or sausage and/or bacon with gravy and eggs), might before hand too, but I dunno. But potatoes is a given for sucking up alcohol.
