Mace, CS, Pepperspray?

Just bought a can of CS for my girlfriend, it's illegal here in Sweden and it's about as serious as carrying a hunting knife in public but what the hell, better than getting raped.

Anyhow, anyone got maced? I got exposed to it in my military service but that was military grade CS flares and I don't really wanna experience anything of the sort again. Anyone know how effective this civil stuff is?

I got maced in middle school. Hurt like Hell. I wish I could have got the bastard that did it. Unfortunately they kicked him out of school.

Ehm... seeing as I'm a smoker and tasted both I would say that you must be awfully sensitive to smoke hehe... the stuff they made us stand in felt like vinegar in your eyes... not a very plesant day.

CS is not very good for self-defense, you know. If i were you, i'd get her some OC...Or you could get her a taser...Been tased AND maced on training, both are equally terrible if you ask me.

Now... what's OC? Tasers are awfully hard to get here in Sweden, even the police have had trouble getting their hands on some air tasers... they seem to prefer hollow point rounds :P Thought about pepperspray but it seems to be harder to aim than a cloud of spray? My thoughts are more around if she get wrestled down and fill the bastards face with CS, that's usually pretty incapacitating, no?

More like insensitive to CS. In basic training we did the cs gas chamber. I had no prob with it. We did tell some soldiers that hadn't went through it yet that four of us died though. *evil grin*

My father was both Maced and Pepper Sprayed during his work as an Ambulance driver and EMT. The Pepper knocked him for a loop, he had to take the rest of the day off, but the Mace just disabled him for a couple of minutes - he could still function, but not sufficiently to treat the patient (a heroin addict in an "altered state of consciousness." Yeah, right.)

I've received CS during basic, but I cheated - I wore full-sclera contact lenses. Worked well.

Not as terrible as being raped, I would imagine...

Might require similar medical treatment afterwards though.

Arg...closest I've come is getting spicy Buffalo wing sauce in my eyes after wiping my face with sauce all over them. That shit hurts, and you're not expecting it. The wing places around here, on their spiciest wings, actually put warning stickers on the packages for that reason.

But no. i've never been maced. Never been stun-gunned or tasered. Never even been bonked with a frying pan. Worst situation for me was falling down the stairs with a dresser, and I can't remember if I was leading or following.

I was exposed to pepper spray once as a kid. My parents were going to buy me a bike, so, all unsuspecting, we walked into this bike store. We were kind of curious as to why nobody else was inside, but the door had an 'open' sign on it.
A few minutes later, one of my parents noticed the smell. 'Course by that point it was too late and I spent the rest of the day in a rather bad mood.

The thing with CS for self-defense is that it's easier for the user to get affected, at least that's what i think. Not to mention that CS may take some longer time to act, and it may not work at all if the attacker is under the influence of drugs.
Now OC is an inflammatory agent. When you get OC'ed, your eyes slam shut and is really friggin' hard to open them, and even if someone does manage to get their eyes open, they won't be able to see because OC causes temporary blindness. Additionally, instant inflammation of the breathing tissues restricts all but life suport breathing.

Those tasers are the ones I thought about... they own the shit out of almost everything else, but sadly they are so damn illegal here its silly... we don't have the right to protect ourselves here unless we can fight off a druginduced bodybuilder in hand-to-hand combat... shitty system and all that...

civilian grade mace isn't awful...it isn't by any means nice, but you don't want to die. My friends father got me with the police grade stuff...that is much worse.

No matter what, if you have contacts, you're going to be in a world of hurt for quite a while. I got mine out as fast as I could, but the oils that got on my fingers and on the contacts just made it worse. I ended up pouring a gallon of milk over my eyes with the police grade stuff. (mind you, I have really sensitive eyes, but even for those with strong eyes, I can't imagine it being any better)

Not really, just get her one of the 'fogger' types, which have a wider agled spray. These also have CS on them, so you get the best of all worlds.
