This is the lyrics of the song "Poverty For All". I am not too fond of the type of music, but the lyrics is quite good. The song is about Hungarian heroes who fought the Communist invaders in 1956.

Sold by your own
October revolution
Out to the streets
To fight against the tyranny
In 56' we fought the occupation
The young and old
Against the Communist regime

The sorrow, a so-called liberation
The sorrow, a violent domination
Sorrow, the humiliation
Fifty years, the death of a nation

Poverty for all
But freedom's the exception
The Proletariat, now the
Red Bourgeoisie
The murder, the torture
The terror, the famine
Fifty years under the
Communist regimes

The sorrow, a so-called liberation
The sorrow, a violent domination
Sorrow, the humiliation
Fifty years, the death of a nation

The price of freedom,
is worth it to me
Fighting
A revolution
Fighting
For human rights
The Cheka, the Stazi
The human tragedies
The casualties of the state
Fifty years,
a tragic philosophy
Fifty years,
collective suffering
Fifty years,
we're the casualties
of the state

The sorrow, a so-called liberation
The sorrow, a violent domination
Sorrow, the humiliation
Fifty years, the death of a nation

The Austrian Bundesheer (Federal Army) mobilizes at the Austro-Hungarian border when they hear about the Communist invasion. Thousands of Hungarians fled to the free West via this border.

It is important to rememnber who gave their lives in the anti-Communist struggle.

Yes. Many people denigrate the fighters of the great idealistic struggle of the 20th century, because they don't see how each step was an advance towards freedom, or a falling back towards tyranny.

Hungary's resistance to the Soviets put the lie to their claims that theirs was a popular revolution of the world's workers. It was setback they never truly recovered from, and paved the way, many years later, for the final victory.

i don't know if it was the hungarian revolution that paved the way for final victory. wouldn't it rather have been puting to much money in the arms race against the USA, a bad economy, corruption and incompetence that paved that road?

Well, remember that the arms race was part of reinforcing control over their population; if their military and police weren't kept as strong as possible, they would have gradually the government's control disintegrate.

Also, the economic stagnation and corruption didn't really set in until the 1970's; before that, Communist countries were actually outpacing capitalist countries overall in terms of net economic growth.
