Thats a pretty ugly story. Glad the girl didnt jump-imagine her horror when she became aware of people encouraging her to die? They probably thought they were being so cool.

Anyway, this was the first thing I heard on the radio yesterday morning, and my thoughts were something like this:

1) What kind of fucking asshole teenagers were that?!

2) Yay for someone standing up to them, even better that it was homeless people - that'll teach the "good people" of that nice, small, middle-class town...

3) Wait - there's no way those "good people" will admit that their own kids are scum and that it had to be pointed out to them by the guys usually hanging around drunk in the town square. They're so totally going to spin this to fit their comfortable little world view.

4) What has our youth come to? (to be said in a granny's plaintive voice :p)

That's true. I just never miss out on an opportunity to encourage kids to use drugs and have sex that they'll (hopefully) regret later.

I dont know much about suicide or what leads people to it.

I always assumed that people that picked a stage like a building or bridge to jump from, dont really want to die- they want to be talked down, helped and get the attention they need.

The ones that just kill themselves in private with no warning- there is no way to help.

So- no- I cant see encouraging someone to kill themselves.

If she jumped and died, would the reality have set in to the ones encouraging it? Would they have been able to live with themselves afterward ? Especially when the same amount of effort could save?

Like I said-I hope they all got a taste and learned. And the ones that didnt got their clocks cleaned by some better, though less fortunate, humans.

Normal ones, i'm afraid. A vivid memory from when I was younger is being encouraged to commit suicide whilst I was in a very poor mental state.

See, I cannot condone that unless they were punching the homeless in the neck while riding their asses, as well. As a European, I have certain standards when it comes to the large country to the South.

I'm sure some of the teenagers swung that way, so who's to say that a few of them weren't "riding the homeless" while punching them at the same time?

ugh, this reminds me of one day while I was in high school. my school bus normally took the highway, but there was a detour - the detour gave us a good, close-up view of the reason for said detour - a jumper on one of the overpasses. half the fucking bus opened their windows and started screaming "jump!" - it was surreal to realize how incredibly cruel and stupid my classmates were. ugh.

A week or 2 back i heard this story about some unruly thugs who tried to mug an old man, the Old man was a former Military man(British) and put the 3 of them on their arses.

The thugs were German or English, i can't remember.

Only time I ever saw my Dad give a homeless guy money. The guy had a sign that said "Need money for beer." My Dad said "At least he's honest."
