The Big Fat Liberal's Big Fat Election Coverage

So .... we pretty much know everyone's leanings politically around here.

I'm sure as most of you know, I'm a big ol' Lib/Left kinda hippie and I voted mostly Democrat and Libertarian (I always vote Libertarian on Judges - we elect Judges in Texas).

Anyway, no need to say how you voted, but I hope you all have voted or are going to vote this evening.

There's already a "Will you Vote?" thread, so this one I am devoting to Election Coverage! Who will you be watching for returns? Jon Stewart? CNN? Something local?

Let's try to keep this thread alive throughout the night!

Local coverage and national will be intertwined at our house. Network for the national because we've just never gotten into switching to the cable news programs. I must make an effort to check in on Stewart, though.

Jon Stewart. though I may tune in to Msnbc from time to time( best coverage of politics on cable news)

Should be noted some exit polls just came out saying people voted 2 to 1 for national issues. This looks good for democrats. I may be eating crow by the end of the night since I thought the dems would blow it as they are so good at doing.

Does Smirnoff Vodka or Flying Fish brewery provide election coverage? I'm getting trashed on cheap vodka and good beer to celebrate the fact that this election, and Republican control of the house, is over.

Sure about that?, IIRC the dems. would have to hold on to all their seats and win about 3 dozen Republican seats in order to get the majority.

Sounds like a long-shot to me.

Your judicial elections are partisan? Go Texas! Way to get rid of any attempt at an independent judiciary! LOL

I voted less of a mix this time around, that's for sure. Usually, I end up casting votes for Democrats, Republicans, and a Libertarian or two. This time, I think the Lib count was one (and he didn't seem hard-core libertarian based on his campaign) and the Repub count was...... 0, I think. Unusual for me, but all of the Repubs in my state seem to be going the moralistic, but not the least bit fiscally conservative, route.

It'll have to be the interwebs for me. I don't have TV at home.

Nope, it's not that high in the House, I think they have to pick up 15 seats to hold a majority. 5 or 6 in the Senate.

Heh ... yep. We elect our judges *and* the Texas Supreme Court along party lines. Crazy, eh?

Actually just hold the seats they've got and gain 15. If they get six in the senate they can take that too.

I think my state of Illinois does that too.

Anyways, I will be watching Faux, just to laugh at the TV when they try to spin the Rep. losses as cheating by the liberal elitists or something.

In Colorado judges are appointed but we get to vote them out from time to time. There's a proposed constitutional Amendment that would term-limit judges here. I voted against it, as much because I hate term limits on principle as because the Amendment was drawn up by the former president of the state senate in an attempt to punish the state supreme court justices who threw out his sneaky, last-minute redistricting plan a few years ago.

I'm looking forward to that as much as you are, but I'd hold the cheering until the votes are actually in and counted.

Well, maybe not counted. I've got a birthday coming up in a few months and I'd like to celebrate that, even if the votes aren't in. But the Election celebration should wait till it's done.

It's not electing judges that I have a problem with (although I tend to think that the highest court judges should not be elected - at least not regularly). We do that in my state too. It's electing them in a partisan election that bothers me. In GA, at least, judicial elections are considered non-partisan. There are no Democratic, Republican, etc. nominees. There are just judges running for office.

Of course, candidates do sometimes run attack ads that seem partisan, attacking, "liberal activist judges" or some such, but the judges who get in are usually the ones who avoid such tactics.

If it turns out the election is stolen then I'll drink to drown my sorrows.

FOX. Seeing the reporters ecstatic when the news comes that the GOP has won both the House of Representatives and the Senate will be quite uplifting for me.

Yeah, I don't think they're partisan here, either. I haven't seen any ads from any of the judges, positive or negative, come to think of it.

The Republicans already control them. They can't "win" them.
