Today as we all know, is an election day. perhaps one of the most important midterm elections in decades. Issues such as war, taxation, economy, gay rights, defense of marriage, and a myriad of local issues are at play.
Some see the vote as a referrendum on Bush, with the Democratic party crying for us to use our votes to send a message of our disatisfaction on the president. Likewise the Republican party urges us to remember we are not voting for bush, and to point our anger at the president towards the congressional polls is misguided.
Whatever the outcome, politics will be decidedly altered. And what is the breaking news story over on cnn.com?
Is it massive allegation of voter fraud? up to the minute poll results? political predictions on how america will develop over the next two years?
No, it is:
Britney Spears files for divorce
I hate america...
Well she beat her previous record of 54 hours.

That's pretty far from the top story of the day, but check these other contenders for the bottom story of the day. I think they give Ms Spears a run for her money.

This is news:
http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2006/11/07/machine-voting.html
After warnings that electronic voting could cause trouble in Tuesday's U.S. elections, there are signs of "what now appears to be a growing debacle," the CBC's Henry Champ reports from Washington.
By mid-afternoon, officials in at least three jurisdictions — Denver, Colo., Muncie, Ind., and Davidson County, Tenn. — were asking federal judges for extended voting hours because, they said, voting machines in their areas have not functioned and they cannot handle the numbers of voters at the polls without more time.
CBC pwns CNN apparently.

I think this just proves exactly how much the american people give a shit about the government these days. Most of the people i know, myself included, have just given up and decided to move to Canada sometime in the future.

Seriously, people need to have something to talk about or look at on their Blackberries and PDAs and internet-capable leaf-blowers while waiting in line to vote. They're expecting 60% turn-out in Colorado today, and the volume is frying the electronic voting machines Right and Left.

More likely it'll say "I shagged Britney Spears back when she was still hot!"

Why would anyone care for up-to-the-minute poll results? Really, people, it won't hurt you to wait until to tomorrow to review the results. However, news relating to Brittany Spears is a pathetic attempt at reporting and illustrates how the moral fibre of our society is being shredded to pieces by valuing celebrity gossip over real news.

One of the guys here just came back and he said it wasn't the voting machines crashing, it was the system they use to verify your credentials. Could also be that the long lines were caused by the fact that the verification machines are manned by people well into their 80's who never have gotten the hang of computers.

Isn't Britney Spears a Bush supporter?
I'm pretty sure I came across that when looking into a conservative blogger's claim that Spears and Federline would create "a load of retarded New York liberal Senators," even though she's a Republican from Lousisiana, and NY like any other state, can only have two Senators.

Or, unsurprisingly, there was that and a failure to plan for the entirely predictable turnout.

Irreconcilable differences, eh? The timing is great. Divorce just as the election arrives. Spears is a Repub? K-fed must probably be a democrat. This must be the "irreconcilable difference" they're talking about, i assume?
