Anyone else watches this series on NBC?

A group of people across the world (ok, only one guy in Japan, the rest are US citizens.) find that they have the abilities only found in comic books and movies, and now, they are starting to find their callling...

"Save the Cheerleader, Save the World."

Hiro Nakamura: Japan - Ability to teleport and bend space and time (stop time, travel to the past and future.) Went to the future, only to witness New York vanish in a nuclear fireball.

Isaac Mendez: New York - a painter who can paint images of the future.

Micah Sanders: Las Vegas - A child who appears to have the ability to repair any broken machine with a touch.

Niki Sanders: Las Vegas - Micah's Mother who has a very nasty alter personaility.

Claire Bennett: Texas - A High School Cheerleader who can heal any wound she recieves immediately... and can (and has) returned from the dead.

Nathan Petrelli: New York - Politican who can fly higher than his dreams of power.

Peter Petrelli: New York - Nathan's brother who can duplicate anyone's ability when he's near them.

Matt Parkman: New York - Police officer who can read people's thoughts.

D.L. Hawkins: Niki's Wife and Micah's father... who is a fugitive from the police... and can phase through objects.

and of course you have your group of people out there that are either hunting them down for one purpose or another...

It's the only good new show this season. And for NBC, it should be "Save the cheerleader, save the TV season."

I didn't know if it would be any good, you know how bad TV can be with sci-fi, but I was pleasantly surprised. Even more surprised when my Lady became as big a fan as I am.

Yeah, I like it. Sort of an X-Men meets X-Files deal. However, I havn't watched last night's episode yet, so I'm ducking out of here (God bless the DVR)....

The pacing annoys the hell out of me, they're trying to develop a dozen characters at once so almost nothing happens any episode. Little forward progress.

well, it is a series... so it would be interesting to see who gets the spotlight next season... if it does continue to next season...

Maybe the pacing is a little slow, but I don't find it annoying. Not like The Nine, for instance, where nothing is coming together at all and they're six weeks into the season.

No problem. My lack of self control is nobody's fault but mine. :)

Let me guess..."Mental Telepathy. So easy, even a caveman could do it" ? :p

Figure if they want to know they can look it up anyway. They can't claim it wasn't hidden in case they didn't wanna know.

I know... but I know that some people really don't like spoilers... so it's more of a personal preference to not give things away. :D

Which was a lame ripoff of _________, which was in turn a ripoff of _________, and so on, and so on. Ultimately you'll track your way back to Achilles, Hector, Ajax and company in the Trojan Wars; or Lazarus in the Bible. Study your history, fictional or otherwise.

Just because it's not 100% original doesn't mean it's not a good hero story. I think they're slowing it too much, and I've got a pretty good idea of how they're going to 'save the cheerleader'

Issac and Matt will work together to figure out how Sprague is going to blow. Peter Petrelli will get brother Nathan to drop him at the scene of the crime, having borrowed from both Hiro and Claire to partially stop time and partially heal himself in the bits that get through. Not sure how Niki and DL figure into this, but it will probably be something involving a distraction against Claire's dad organized by Micah (who isn't a tech repairman, but a child genius and probability manipulator). Peter will pick up a fairly impressive scar as a result (remember what Future Hiro said?), and New York will be saved.
If you've been paying attention, you might have noticed ...
... the two cuts on the shoulders of Matt and at least one other character? These guys aren't mutants, they're being nano-manipulated. Claire's have of course healed up. The geneticists who run the operation are the ones with the tattoo with the missing ATCG codons forming that cute little S pattern.

What gets me is Hiro is far and away the most powerful of any of them. I mean his time manipulation is nothing short of godly in terms of power. Unless he comes against a serious limit to his power he's a walking I WIN button.

I've watched a bit of it over dinner, and the only character I actually like is Hiro. I find him very funny.

except, Issac and Matt never met, both don't know each other.

and you still have the Syler person out there who appears to have Telekenisis.

and where did the idea of Nano-manipulation came from. for all you know, Sprauge and Matt may have gotten their scars while under Claire's father's tender minstrations...

I suspect Syler can steal abilities, he's hunting people. He also seems to be a religious zealot. He has several abilities apparently and we don't know much about him. Telekinesis definitely, probably cyrokinesis (frozen dude at the murder scene), some form of telepathy (making the FBI bint turn the gun on herself could be telekinesis though). He also got back up and vanished after being shot a couple times, so rapid healing is also a possibility.

if so, he's doing it while cutting off the tops of their heads and removing their brains. Remember the painting and what happened to Issac when Hiro went into the future?

Straight-up Jeckell and Hyde behavior. I'm almost surprised they didn't use the surnames instead of the insipid "Nikki" and "Jessica".

I’ve made it a habit of not getting into story driven television series, especially sci-fi ones. The shows just get cancelled before anything is resolved.

well, that does depend on the station. and so far, Heroes looks to stay the course... (or should that be season.)

My favorite is Claire, The Indestructible Cheerleader. Hiro is the most powerful, but I could figure out how to kill him. After all, he can't stop time if he is unaware of something. Claire, on the other hand... you'd need a nuke to take her out.

Sylar... telekinesis doesn't quite describe it. Matter control is better. He can freeze you solid, cause your cells to become radioactive, burn you alive, and of course move stuff around. Alternatively, the guy they caught last night could be someone else entirely, with Sylar still at large.

Anyway, the only guys who could beat him are Peter (who just steals his abilities) or Hiro (who just stops time and uses that katana he gets later).

I think the first season will be mostly character development - by the end of the season most of the characters will be in contact with each other, possibly excluding Claire (who, contrary to the OP, is from Odessa, Texas). Of course, they just might put her on a plane to New York - which would both allow them to meet her AND put her in the path of that nuke.
