What do you think the movie American History X would be like if it took place in Canada?

You can pick whichever city you like, except Toronto, for it is evil.

It'd be the exact same but with slightly different accents.

Toronto, really, is the only part of Canada worth mentioning. Okay, there's Vancouver too. ^.^
Now, Canadian History Zed would basically be the same, with different accents (as mentioned) and the kid getting stabbed in the end instead of shot. Not that no one gets shot in Canada, it's just a little rarer then South LA.

My roommate was the guy from AHX for halloween. I (the jew) had to draw his tattoos.
When the cops came, we made him put on a coat and hide them.
Twas a good halloween:cool:

Anyway, CHZ would be much more mellow, I would imagine. I don't think the Canadians have the level of hatred seen in areas like SoCal, and not the same type of identifiable immigration (read:brown people) the US has that would feed such a condition.

Good points. But when you get into Vancouver you have yellow people, but it is not like anyone cares; we have learned to drive with them.

The fact that illegal immigration is a problem does not prove that you have a greater proportion of people of colour. Only that your immigration laws are flawed.

No, I believe it was slavery that gave us more people of color (and no U).
Also, you can't really compair American and Canadian imigration issues, as you don't share a border with an underdeveloped country.

Fix your healthcare issues and then we can talk about whether you're an undeveloped country or not.... :p

As for immigration, the latest figures in Toronto are that 44% of the cities population were born outside of the country. There is no doubt that there are some people who disagree with the massive demographic change in the last 30 to 40 years, but most of them live in the hinterlands and have less electoral power. They're content to hunt, fish, and watch CBC... and stay away from the scary urbanites...

Neo-nazism doesn't work well up here. Canadian History Zed would probably end with everyone buying each other Tim Hortons.

In Canada, the white supremacists tend to live on secluded ranches on the prairies. As such, they'd probably never come across any black people so no one would end up going to prison.

Watch it. It's a very difficult film to watch, and is sure to make your blood pressure rise, but it addresses some very serious themes in a frank and intelligent fashion and has a powerful story and involving characters. You will not be disappointed.

The city of Richmond, BC, Canada, is 59% "visible minority", predominently Asian.

Half Moon Bay, where Venice Beach is, is 34% "visible minority", predominently hispanic and black. (Unless you're talking about a different Venice Beach?) http://www.city-data.com/city/Half-Moon-Bay-California.html

Probably correct. I lived In northern Alberta as a kid; I was 18 before I met a black person. We had a fair number of asians, and some other occasional ethnic groups, but for people of African decent, almost none until about 20 years ago.

Its growing though. Its a popular destination for exchange students.

I suspect it has a lot to do with the climate; I recall sitting beside a black guy in the college library. He was emailing his brother who was attending school in some european country. he showed me how his brother was complaining of the cold(-5 C or something) and meanwhile, it was -40 for US! We had a good laugh between the shivers.

Likewise, there are not a lot of Jewish people in Alberta, supposedly they prefer more urbanized areas. Edmonton and Calgary have most of the jewish people in Alberta. My city of 40 000 doesnt have a synagogue.

Now as far as militant white supremacists go, I dont think you will find many in Alberta. The really militant ones dont exactly want to hide out. You will find them in urban areas causing trouble. In the prairies you will simply find people that dont have enough exposure to make them truly tolerant.

30 years ago, half of Albertans didnt live in Alberta. New comers are welcome here.

I grew up in Lloydminster (east-central Alberta, I suppose). Until about 1985 there was one black kid in the entire city, but I didn't know a single asian.

That black kid was my best friend, but I didn't even know he was black because the whole concept was so alien to me.

I went on a camping trip into Alberta in the summer, and my crew had 11 girls on it. I was the first Asian seen for 3 of the girls there. It kind of scared me.
