Comedic license enhanced by the absurdity of the character.

Skipping that one. Sasha Cohen has never struck me as being funny. His Ali G character had me deciding he is an abject idiot.

Yes, I'm a little worried about that... Anyway, it comes out in 2 weeks here. I may go and see it.

I guess they're not going to use voice-overs for this one, right? It would ruin the effect (well, it ruins all films in my opnion).

Yes I agree, people who say or think things that the rest of society has deemed inapproite or politically incorrect should be tortured and/or killed on
site. I think that would make people in this world so much more tolerant and lead to an era of peace and harmony.

Just back from seeing it (and yes, the first thing I do is come on General. Oh, what little life I have). It was one of the funniest films I've ever seen. Particular highlights (spoilers):at dinner with the pastor and others - "you two would be very attractive in Kazakhstan. You [pastor's wife] not so much."; the naked wrestling scene; the whole rodeo scene, especially the guy saying "it's them people [gays] we're trying to get rid of". :D

I really wanna see that film, looks so funny!

It's nice to see that the Jews and others he insults are not so up in arms about it too, shows that we're all civilised enough to recognise a joke when we see one. Imagine what would happen if he said that stuff about muslims?

I know the guy's Jewish himself, but if a muslim said that kinda stuff about other muslims, there would be uproar. Embassies & flags burning all over the place.

Of course the Jews aren't up in arms about it. We invented self depricating humor.

We love to laugh at ourselves. See any Mel Brooks film. Especially the "Springtim for Hitler" song in The Producers. Or you can see the Inquisition song in History of the World.

I wonder how this bastard goes about making lies about other people’s culture. How's that funny, especially when he doesn't share their culture. He's giving the wrong image of the country he portrays to be from, when he's really a British!!! What's more inconceivable is that, this guy is profiting from this. If I see this bastard walk down on my street, I’d punch him in his mouth until he permanently starts speaking with that ridiculous accent. Funny thing is that I’m not even from the country he’s making fun of and I’m this pissed off, now, can you imagine how the ordinary people of Kazakhstan will react, when they discover this phony guy tarnishing them?

what i got from the film was that he was taking the piss out of the US far more than he was of Kazakhstan. the whole premise of the character is that it's a ridiculous parody. everyone knows that he's a ridiculous character, only the very stupid would think that it's an actual representation of a kazakhstan native.

It's a brilliant coup to extract honest responses from everyday people. In Germany there's a French actor, "Alphonse", who goes around with a baguette and a microphone asking people questions like "Would you rather be homosexual or a politician?" or "If there are any more floods in Saxony, shouldn't their water bills be lowered?" This kind of naive question get people answering before their p.c. minds can catch up with their mouths.

Being a couch potato I'll certainly see BorAt, but not until he's on TV here.

Just a shot in the dark, but you haven't seen the movie, have you?

He isn't even talking so much about Kazakh culture. Yeah, he makes a few jokes (The Running of the Jews), but they are so over the top, that it is blatant, and really, some of the least amusing parts of the movie (don't get me wrong. They're funny. Just not as funny).

He's talking about American culture. When he says says he hopes Bush can drink the blood of every Iraqi, and the people cheer. When he says that in Kazakhstan, then hang gays, and a man says we're trying to do that same thing here. That is the point of his comedy...not attacking Kazakhstan.

I suggest seeing a movie before you criticize it. You really look foolish accusing Cohen of something he doesn't do.
