I am trying to change my 1998 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2l automatic into manual transmission as my first step on the road of street racing. Anyone know what exactly I need to do this?

That's gonna be a pretty big job. The transmission is obviously connected to a lot of stuff down there.
I'm no mechanic, so I can't really help, but I can tell you that before you seriously think about doing this you should consult a mechanic first. If you just want something to go quick, you may want to think about getting something older and concentrating on that...it's not like the Sunfire is a particularly sporty car anyways.
May I suggest a first generation MX-5/Miata? It's got all the right ingredients to go quick.

I bought the sunfire without racing in mind but now i want it to be fast. I only make about 860 a month so I can't afford another car..

I know what you mean. I have the same problem, stuck with a '98 1.6l 100hp VW Golf. :D
Well, as I said, replacing the transmission is going to be a big job. Maybe it would be better to go the path of least resistance and concentrate on other things. Put in a turbo or supercharger, get a bigger exhaust system and most of all: have a look at replacing bits of the suspension.
Even though it won't be quite as nice, there is nothing that says a car has to have a manual to go quick.

Hmmm, a few options:
If you're really committed, you could sell the Sunfire and get something a little older and a little quicker. That depends on whether you actually own the Pontiac or whether you're still paying off finance though.
Alternatively, you could save and go back even further, into the '80s. A first generation RX-8 or 300ZX might be on the cards for relatively little money. Or obviously some American muscle car, if you're ready to pay for the fuel.
