I just think it's another pathetic attempt at conforming to an identity. Everybody should just be themselves and act in ways that they like and that makes them comfortable, and yet there's a sizable fraction of people who feel the need to be "independent" and "unique" by all dressing in black and pretending to be deep. It's kinda sad, really.

Every time a see an emo guy I take a look at his tight jeans and I feel nothing but fear. Fear, not because I have an opinion about his fashion but I fear for the quality of his sperm and his future progeny and it makes me sad.:(

Generally I think the look's a bit crap... I mean, you look at fashion in th eighties, how're people in the future going to think of blokes with their pants hanging out of their very thin genital-mashing trousers and wearing eyeliner? There shouldn't be problems with it, really, from a liberal standpoint, but I just think it looks... yeah.

What Seangoli said, plus, being emo is a state of mind, at least, if you're thinking of the depressed state of mind, what is life all about sort of thing. I spent about 4-5 years of my life being emo and yet not once did I have the slightest urge to show off my depression, I never begged others to pay attention to me because I was depressed or anything like that. Basically, I just had no friends and no idea how to get any. So, emo is really a state of mind, not a fashion, at least, in my sense of the word.

How long do you think emo has got anyway? One? Two more years before the trend dies? I wonder what'll be next? I'm hoping for a music and fashion scene based around klingon culture and dress. You know, men and women with long hair and huge foreheads in leather shouting "kuplah!" and singing about killing people and dying in battle! In fact, I'm going to shave my head right now!

As for Emo, well I only know a few Emos so I can only base my knowledge off them. The ones I know are total losers! It's laughable how depressing they think their lives are. So well said. Real emo kids call their music 'hardcore' to avoid having it confused with MTV-poocore. Emo, being an offshoot of hardcore certainly qualifies.

I've also seen it called 'kittenviolence'. Kittenviolence wins the coolest genre name ever contest, because it's so obviously making fun of itself.

It's all quite normal, whats the big deal about it
