I have absolutly had it with the Bush administration and its fight on terror and peoples rights. Now they want to deny terrorists lawyers for yet another reason. This time they dont want them blabbing to thier own lawyers about the torture that the US has been doing to them. So logically, the US wants to solve this problem not by stoping torture, but by restricting who the defendent get for a lawyer. Are we in the Twighlight Zone or something? It seems that the US does something fucked up, then they need to do 10 more things even more fucked up to justify the first fucked up thing and soon you have a huge pile of completly unacceptable behavior from our elected leaders. Im a lifelong Republican and im done with the Bush administration. Im sick of being spoonfed BS and sick of our country being turned into something it wasnt 10 years ago.

Haha. "They shouldn't be allowed to tell anyone about how we are torturing them, because that will make the torture less effective."
That is some serious fucked up shit, right there. Nice to see there is no pretence about it any more though. The US uses torture and violates human rights.
It will be very hard for me to commiserate with the US when the next terror attacks occur, as they seem to be spending so much effort in deserving them. :\

I think this sort of thing has always been going on. it's just got better publicity nowadays.
and, for the record, by that I don't mean to say it's anything short of horrible.
growing up in a country where democracy in my lifetime has always meant two equally corrupt parties - neither of which represents me very well at all, where in my lifetime political debate has always looked more like a flame war, where human rights abuses, rampant xenophobia, and corruption doesn't look much different than it did 400 years ago - I'm beginning to wonder if democracy ever existed in the first place. I think all that's happened is that the corrupt tyrants of yesterday have just gotten better PR managers, and taken a *slightly* lower profile.

So in the extremely unlikely case that these people walk free after being proven innocent, they'll get a gag order slapped on them?
A: So....how did you lose your eye?
B: Well you see, it was...
Agent: Hold it right there! I've got a court order that says you aren't supposed to say anything about that. And if you violate it, you're a terrorists, and you'll lose your other eye!

This dark age will end. All we have right now is hope - and the elections which will bring down the accursed GOP.

That's wishful thinking in the extreme.

Right now it's all we have. Unless humanity in America is a failed project, we have to believe that the dystopia Bush wants to impose will end.

Mid-term elections during the president's 2nd term usually end up in victory for the party opposite of the president's, thats true. The GOP might face a serious loss, but they will not lose all power.

Yes, but a Democratic congress can hamper Bush's evil agenda.

I agree with Vegan Nuts on one thing. Both political parties are corrupt as hell. I think what we should do is get rid of the 2 party system with all of the bi-partisan bullshit and be the way alot of European nations are with their 3, 4, and 5 party systems. Plus if you really look at it, when you compare Democrats here with Democrats in other countries, the US Democrats look very conservative. So there really isn't a "true liberal" party here in America (one that can get into office that is). I know this will never happen *a system with more than two major parties* because the new parties would have to somehow get their hands on funds equal to what the Dems and the GOP spend on campaigning. I guess when it comes to voting, you just gotta vote for the lesser evil...

They might, I'm a bit skeptical about that, the dems. seem to be gutless to me, and too fractured to form a cohesive force to stand against Bush's agenda.

They are the only ones who get airtime. Anyone who has a real liberal take on things has to be a musician or celebrity to get on the news.
News outlets that say that Howard Dean is too polarizing a figure for their show will give airtime to Jerry Falwell. That's why you hear so little from Dennis Kucinich or Jose Serrano. You only get a lot of air time from DINOs like Biden and one-time Democrat Lieberman.
