The Mindset

My classmates and I are having a big Halloween party this Sunday, and as well are booze, we've been instructed by the host to bring a CD filled with ~20 songs. Since this is a party for a bunch of art students, the musical taste is gonna be pretty diverse, so this lets us have a load of music to choose from. I've pretty much decided on my playlist, but what would you suggest for such a party?

Mine:

1. The Similou - All This Love (3:15)
2. Phats & Small - Sweet Dreams (Radio Edit) (3:29)
3. The Egg - Walking Away (Tocadisco Edit) (2:15)
4. Mylo - Doctor Pressure (Vs Miami Sound Machine) (3:23)
5. Oakenfold Feat. Brittany Murphy - Faster Kill Pussycat (3:13)
6. Rogue Traders - Voodoo Child (3:32)
7. Meck Feat. Leo Sayer - Thunder In My Heart Again (3:06)
8. David Guetta - Love Don't Let Me Go (3:36)
9. The Beach & Tia - Suntan (Freemasons Club Mix Edit) (3:36)
10. The Fratellis - Chelsea Dagger (3:33)
11. P!nk - Who Knew (Bimbo Jones Radio Edit) (3:26)
12. Hi Tack - Say Say Say (Waiting 4 U) (3:59)
13. Sunblock - I'll Be Ready (3:32)
14. Deep Dish Feat. Stevie Nicks - Dreams (3:46)
15. Infernal - From Paris To Berlin (2:56)
16. Armand Van Helden Feat. Tara McDonald - MyMyMy (Funktuary Radio Edit) (3:38)
17. Sunset Strippers - Falling Stars (Mike Di Scala vs Paul Smith Jnr 12" Edit) (4:28)

Though I'll probably bring this one too:

1. Goldie Looking Chain - Half Man Half Machine (3:42)
2. Blur - Song 2 (2:02)
3. Electric Six - Gay Bar (2:20)
4. Head Automatica - Beating Heart Baby (3:24)

Tell me what you want to the music to do & I'll tell you what you'll get.

I sound like Brillat-Savarin now.

Chain of Fools by R. L. Burnside--it's a classic, sung by a now-dead Mississippi bluesman with his grandson scratching on a turntable in the background. produced, I believe, by the same guy who did the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.

Ideally, it'll make people dance. The first playlist I listed is certainly designed to do that. The second is for later in the evening, since it's more chillout.

She has a better song. It is about her being fed up. I could not find a video for it that did not involve her shacking her ass the whole time.

that was me and the roomies contribution for our halloween party. there was a song by TV on the Radio, but that CD is in my roommates room, I can't think of the song name, and he's having sex right now. Each song covered one of the roommates costumes, or one of the people helping us throw the party.

haha...a good number do. but all of them are the very least guilty pleasures, if not songs that I openly admit to liking, despite the possible ridicule.

The Killers - When You Were Young (Bonus Version)
Panic! At the Disco - Time to Dance
Pink Floyd - Money
OutKast - Hey Ya!
Gnarls Barkley - Smiley Faces
Daft Punk - Superheros

guilty pleasures (but most I'll still admit to):
Jimmy's Chicken Shack - Do Right
Buckcherry - Lit Up (what, I was a 90's kid)
Hole - Celebrity Skin
Kelly Clarkson - Since U Been Gone
Pirates Remixed - Tiesto Remix

the other songs, I haven't listened to tons, but when I do listen to them, I get into them

Hey Ya! Is a guilty pleasure the rest. Ugh.

Since You've Been Gone has potential but it is on the tap at work, so I have heard it at least once a work day for the past year.

Thriller, that's right. It isn't Halloween without Thriller.

And I vote Alien Ant Farm - Smooth Criminal.

haha...I kind of want Kelly Clarkson. Plus, I never listen to music on the radio, so songs never get overplayed.

I also tend to listen to everything because of who I live with and who my friends are...Last week I was at a TV on the Radio concert, next week I'm going to the symphony, and the week after that is a local pop-punk band. Only styles I really don't like are ska/ska-punk and country (and even then, there is some)

hell, just look at my Last.fm page...some songs just don't fit. Esp. today, with my paper writing.

I work at a grocery store, so we play a bunch of shit, slow music because, well, it makes you buy more. The tape (if it is even a tape, it is not the radio though) repeats every three hours.I have worked about 900 hours you do the math.

I cannot wat until Yule when I have to hear the song " I want a Hippopotomus for Christmas" over and over.

ahh...I feel your pain. I work as a bartender (although, not currently employed). You know all those great songs that make you want to dance and get wicked airplay on the radio? Add that to working in a club. You'll want to hang yourself. That is why I finally shelled out the money to get a car player for my ipod.

the short time I worked in a dry cleaners, I got the pleasure of the Chipmunk christmas song 500x a day.

and before anyone says anything about my ipod, I got my first ipod when it was the first gen, when all other mp3 players held about 12 songs. Now, I don't have the time to go through all my songs and convert the files to a different format

It didn't really go down so well, though. Some people just don't appreciate good music, or how long it took me to make a cd that would create a 'spooky' atmosphere.

And none of the bands ever tour here.

Sigh.

iTunes will convert anything you want to any setting you want. If you want them to all be AAcs, it'll do it. 64 kbps MP3s? It'll do it. 1411 kpbs AIFF? It'll do it...but why would you want to?

Also...FALL OUT BOY? Get the fuck out of my universe.

It's a service most likely; most stores have them. Also, studies have shown that easy listening & "lite pop" is what activates the purchasing condition. This is why I always have something else playing when I go shopping so that I might surgically strike in my buying.
