Those of you who know about Weird Al Yankovic, do you like or not like his paraody music?

For those who don't know about him, search for some of his songs. The more recent songs being "You're pitiful" and "White and Nerdy".

Here's his wiki article.

Most of his stuff is pretty funny, the White & Nerdy one in particular. I don't think I'd ever buy any of his stuff though.

The song "Dare to be Stupid" was good, mainly because it was on the Transformers: The Movie soundtrack. :D

Other than that, he's pretty meh in my book...though I can fondly recall listening to Bad Hair Day, I don't exactly get excited about the latest Weird Al release. :p

He was the only person to have the guts to make fun of Nirvanna.
And Smells Like Nirvanna is easily his best song (that or Amish Paradise).

American musician who makes parodies of popular songs. He's not particularly original or particularly funny.

Errr... you do know he doesn't just do parodies, don't you? Or did you think "Christmas at Ground Zero", "Good Enough For Now", and "Nature Trail to Hell" were parodies.

His best stuff is quite original. And his originals outnumber his parodies.

In small doses, I think Weird Al is a comedic genius.

After a few songs, the sound of his voice makes me want to smash him in the face with a cinderblock. There's a reason why he's not a mainstream musician. ;)

I quite like.

And, to the OP, "Myrth" used to be a moderator herabouts and his name is often used as the joke option in polls in his honour.

Wierd Al is teh pwn.

My Favorite song? Amish Paridise:) (sung to the tune of Gangsta Paradise.)

Hitchin' up the buggy,
Churnin' lotsa butter,
Raised a barn on Monday,
soon I'll raise another.
Think yer really righteous?
Think yer pure at heart?
Well, I know I'm a million times as humble as thou art.

I'm the pious guy the little Amlettes wanna be like,
On my knees day and night,
Scorin' points fer the afterlife.
So don't be vain,
And don't be whiney.
Or else mah brutha I might haveta get medieval on yer heinie!!!!!

He's a fucking genius. Who said he wasn't original? I'd like to see them make a badass parody of "American Pie" using The Phantom Menace. You can't do it! And if you can, it's not nearly as well done as Al's!

It was a sad day when his TV show was cancelled.

The real problem is whether you really have a clue about Weird Al's music or if you just get stuff from file sharing that bears his name --
from the Wiki linked earlier:
Because Yankovic is arguably the most successful parody artist, songs posted to file sharing networks are often misattributed to him due to their humorous subject matter. Much to the disdain of Yankovic, this includes songs that are racist, sexually explicit, or otherwise offensive. A young listener who had heard several of these offensive tracks by way of a file sharing service confronted Yankovic online, threatening a boycott due to his supposedly explicit lyrics.[43] Quite a few of the songs, such as "I Wanna Be a Stormtrooper" by Anarchy Steering Committee, "Star Wars Cantina", "Star Wars Gangsta Rap", "Yoda Smokes Weed", "Chewbacca, What a Wookie" and several more have a Star Wars motif.[44] The large number of Star Wars related songs attributed to him is somewhat surprising, as to date Yankovic has only sung two Star Wars related songs: a parody of The Kinks hit "Lola" called "Yoda", and of Don McLean's "American Pie" about The Phantom Menace called "The Saga Begins". There are also others such as "Windows 95 Sucks" and "I Ran Over the Taco Bell Dog." In addition, some of these parodies are only a minute long.

Yankovic cites these misattributions as "his real beef with P2P sites":

"If you do a search for my name on any one of those sites, I guarantee you that about half of the songs that come up will be songs I had absolutely nothing to do with. That particularly bothers me, because I really try to do quality work, and I also try to maintain a more-or-less family-friendly image – and some of these songs that are supposedly by me are just … well, vulgar and awful. I truly think my reputation has suffered in a lot of people's minds because of all those fake Weird Al songs floating around the Internet.

Yes, I do them. Honestly? I don't care for them. I think it's a bit overdone. I learned the basics of clowning at a three week clown camp in Wisconsin, but every year I make it a point to pick up a new skill or two. this summer, after trying my hand at unicycling(which didn't go too well) I picked up facepainting. I rather enjoy it. I highly recommend face painting. Kids like it, parents like it. *nod*

yeah, I do the balloon sculpture, face painting and magic tricks....although my magic is more silly than actually magic.

Last night I just did balloons, they had a "face painter" and while I was walking through the crowd I would stop by her and be like "uh....wow, I could so do that better" but I didn't say anything. LOL

My biggest problem with balloon animals is that once you make a kid a balloon sword, they all want balloon swords. :p

believe me when you got 50 kids gathered around a balloon sword is a godsend, it's twist twist twist hand off.

I had kids last night saying "can you make a duck?" LOL I was like "hell no I can't make a duck......" but instead I said "I can make a duck but it looks like a dog..." to which the kid replied "aren't they all dogs?" we laughed and I made him a hat.

I love Weird Al. Unfortunately, his CDs aren't sold in Brazil, so all that's left for me is downloading songs... Even Lars Ulrich knows it's wrong, but I can't help but take away money from artists just like him, even though I know he won't be able to afford another solid gold humvee because of me...

Weird Al is actually quite skilled. 'Eat It', for example, is a really well constructed song.
