I dunno about the east coast in the U.S., but Ryerson University and I think York University here in Toronto have some good photo programs.

My parents both went to Pratt in Brooklyn. Its a good art school, my mother got her degree in painting and my dad got his in printing. I know a photographer who went there, although he lives in Seattle now.

Sounds fine and all, but, I have to be the voice of reason, why not do that as a minor and have a practical major at a university? But, take something that would compliment your desires, like journalism. :)

They also have good journalism programs, which goes well with photography, as well as Carlton University in Ottawa.

this post will be ignored because of my advice, but I'm saying it anyway (we all knew I would say this)
Boston. BU has a great photography major, along with a strong liberal arts backing. Most universities up here have the same, as well as several strictly art schools.
I would suggest getting the full liberal arts background. It will help if you choose to do a masters in something besides photography, as well as make you more employable.

:p Then I guess I'm boring! (I was in a computer studies program that focused on networks and hardware as well as troubleshooting etc).

Your advice has not been ignored, as it shall go on the list of schools to check out, with all of the others suggested here.
*But it's still in Boston.. =P

Website of aforementioned photographer who went to Pratt. IMO, his wife, who was also a photographer, was more talented, but she now how a boring ("practical") job. But I guess he makes some money photographering.

to reaffirm those already mentioned;
RISD-if you get in and want to be an artistic photographer, go here.
SCAD-if you want to use your photography degree for more modern and practical applications, this is the school.
