You mean when they caught him, or when they 'caught' him and brought him out in public?

Watching the news, probably. It wasn't that memorable an event, not like when the first moon landing took place or Kennedy was shot.

Why would I remember something so pointless? I mean, I remember where I was when I heard Anna Lindh had died, but Saddam's capture? I doubt you could have picked a more insignificant event if you had tried.

I was expecting a "Where were you when the towers were hit" topic. This is disappointing.

I move to hijack this thread and change the topic, all in favor say "aye".

W00t!

Aye.

Motion passed, *gavel slam*, thread topic is now "Where were you when the towers were hit".

I was in freshman math class - algebra 1 and 2. There was a PA announcement to turn on the televisions and find a station that was covering the news - at the time, this was most stations. We watched that for the rest of the class, and the class after that. The class after that, we tried to do actual schoolwork, but most of us, including the teacher, just couldn't. A lot of girls were crying that day, and you could hear it from the hallways. Some guys were, as well, but most were in shock. I can't remember if we went home early or not - the entire day seemed to just stretch on endlessly.

My reflex-defensive mechanism kicked in like it always does in traumatic situations. I couldn't stop smiling, and I had tears in my eyes. I couldn't talk, and I could barely hear anything other than what was on the news. If you hadn't seen my eyes, you would never have known I was upset - the rest of my face was relatively stoic, as were the few words I managed to get out of my mouth.

Though, what they said was true about it bringing people together - throughout the hallways and in classrooms, people were hugging, others just generally wanted to be near as many people as possible, no matter who they were or what kind of person they were or how they had treated eachother before that day.

I was happy that we'd reacted that way, but sad that it took something like this to make it happen.

When they actually fell I was at the office. Someone had a radio on and came around to say what had happened. They closed the building and sent us all home very shortly thereafter. That morning, though, I turned on the news as I was getting dressed (as I always do) and Good Morning, America was on live. That in itself told me something was up because here in Denver we get it on tape-dealy. Anyway, Charlie Gibson was talking about a plane crashing into one of the Towers, they thought a small plane at first, and they had a video feed of the WTC going when along came the second plane. I'll never forget that.

When I got home, I sat in front of the television, watching and listening to the incredible pictures and the stories of people who'd been there, until it got to be too much. It was a beautiful day here and I went out and mowed the lawn, just to do something, to breathe the air, instead watching what I now was my world changing.

Why choose the most uninteresting topic possible to replace the most uninteresting topic possible?

For the towers I was online doing something insignifigant, heard about the first plane and thought "what a shitty pilot". Then I spent the next hour or so getting news as fast as I could, up to an hour in advance of CNN. They're so slow.

Because when it actually happened I was 13 years old, and I didn't start getting into the internet until I was 14 or 15, so I didn't have a community like this to share an experience like this up until recently.

Probably not the best thing to wake up to, especially if you lived in NYC and actually heard the towers go down.

Well, that's the interesting part. Karl Rove has been smiling his ass off lately, even though it's clear to everyone that the repubs are going to lose house and senate to the dems - what's the trick he's got under his sleeve? Maybe they're going to pull back the curtain to show they've found him at the right moment and have a huge spill of votes go into republican sides.

And the towers?

I was on my way to my last job- the owner of my company was in NYC- he called me to say a small plane had hit one of the towers-he was a pilot,so we were discussing how odd it was on such a clear day for someone to have made such an error... but in the next few minutes, learned it wasnt a small plane or an accident.
