Is it just a vocal minority

I'm quite pleasantly surprised - I though that no-one would even have heard of Luxembourg - but loads of people have been saying that they want to go there - is this really true of the majority (I don't care if you're not interested in the Grand Duchy) or is just some people being vocal?

Not enough oil or half-naked brown people so, as an American, count me out.

it's a tiny country with a name like "luxembourg"...of course everyone wants to go.

Been there, done that. Well, if passing through it counts.

Anyway, I think some people have a fascination with the European micro states. Andorra and Luxembourg and Monaco and Lichtenstein and the rest have some sort of allure, especially in a place like nationstates. I'd wager it's because some people appreciate the quirkiness.

If it's tiny and can be gawked at, people will flock to it. Just parade out your freaks and watch the tourism cash roll in; who cares as long as people empty their pockets blindly.

I would like to Luxembourg. I heard that the city of Luxembourg is supposed to be a very nice city. I have been all around Luxembourg, the country, but never went.

Luxembourg doesn't need tourism cash. They have the highest GDP per capita in the world.

So, umm, don't get greedy now, Luxembourgers! Tourists suck.

I, as a previous poster noted, am one of those intrigued by microstates. As such, I find Luxembourg interesting.

Nature, rocks, big snail and the Sun goes out from time to time? Sign me up!

Maybe instead of visiting the usual places, I should plan a European tour of just the micro-countries? Hmmm ...

Luxembourg is massive compared to a real micro state like Liechenstein.

"Stamping Grounds: Exploring Liechtenstein and Its World Cup Dream" by Charlie Connolly is a must read for anyone interested in micro nations and football.

And their Prince Hans Adam (I think that's his name) threatened to sell the country to Microsoft and move to Switzerland.

Monaco may hace allure to the outsider, but, I tell you, watching rich people can get very boring. and you can only visit the Palace once without getting bored - and there's nothing else to do - though, in the rather sparse coutnryside, it is beautiful. My sister lives in Monaco, which is how I know this.

I'd never considered going there, but the pics you posted in the other thread looked really nice. I'm thinking of visiting France again next year, so I might well include a side trip to Luxembourg.

I've been to Luxemburg lots of times in my life. I can tell you, it's a nicy country, a couple of hills, some rivers a few towns and one nice city. Also cheaper fuel and cigarettes then in the surrounding countries :D

I have to agree. Monaco is rather boring - it reminded me of a lot of the smaller New England cities, actually. Lichtenstein feels more "old europe", if you know what I mean.

As I said in another post, I visited Luxembourg (the city) very briefly en route from France to Germany. The land is very pretty and the city was quite attractive (the square was awesome). I really enjoyed my time there and would enjoy visiting again one day.

I am interested in what it's like to live in a very small state. It seems like each person would be worth more (as far as influence on the government goes), and I would be interested in living in that kind of environment to better understand my home government (The US) better as well as understanding what it's like for a citizen of Luxembourg.
