WINE Is Not an Emulator

Anyone else able to get this POS to work. Trying to get it to run Diablo 2 LOD, but it keeps asking me to insert the CD, which is in the drive. This was not a problem during the install, just now that I want to do something useful.

Some people mean by that that Wine must emulate each processor instruction of the Windows application. This is plain wrong. As Wine's name says: "Wine Is Not an Emulator": Wine does not emulate the Intel x86 processor. It will thus not be as slow as Wabi which, since it is not running on a x86 Intel processor, also has to emulate the processor. Windows applications that do not make system calls will run just as fast as on Windows (no more no less).

Of course its not an emulator (http://www.winehq.com/site/myths)

Actually, that may not a problem with WINE. I dimly recall a couple of problems with D2:

1) Some discs were mislabeled, so you have disk 1 in the drive, but it's really disc 2.

2) It wouldn't find the CD with certain other programs loaded, including Roxio CD burning software.

As I know very little in the way of how a computer works, I would just like to say that Diablo 2 LOD is one of the best games of its time and I love it, I still play it form time to time. You should say hi to my charactor Mrs Tiny at some point.

Wine is much more efficient. It usually takes me just half a bottle.
