which holiday do you like the most. it is a simple question.

I like Thanksgiving because it is my holiday, we don't go see relatives, we don't go see in-laws, nobody comes to see us. Hubby takes care of the turkey, I make some desserts, the kids help me make the veggies and stuffing, and we all sit down as a family and talk about what we are thankful for.

I like christmas because it signals the beginning of the summer break period, which in this part of the world is usually warm but no too hot. And presents. I like getting presents. Screw all the people who say that christmas should be a time for loving and caring and spending time with your family. The whole fucking year should be about loving and caring. Come 25 december, I want my damn presents.

... yes, yes it is.

I like Christmas, personally. Free stuff (and actually getting a long holiday) FTW. :p

i like the summer holiday. beaches, barbeques, splashing about in the sea, parties, and not having to listen to any 'message' about the 'true meaning' of the thing.

It's the biggest holiday in Sweden, and also the funnest. I also like the day of the cinnamon bun.

Winter holiday(s)... you know, Christmas, New Year, etc. That one time of year where everyone gets together and then KABOOM! brand new year, new start to things, you kinda get a feeling of refreshment.. sorta. :)

Christmas, the whole season. There's snow, and once we even had snow on Christmas Day. (This is at my parents' house, not down in TX, it never snows here) I love the atmosphere. We have lots of good food, no turkey or ham like normal people though. We're usually sick of that by then, so we hve enchilladas or pasta or something random. I also get a month off for Christmas break. :)

seems I've encountered a use for 'norway' that I was not aware of.

A tie between Christmas and Thanksgiving: Passing out on the couch with your pants unbuttoned and presents/family.

Not much better.

In case you were wondering, this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hell%2C_Norway) is the "origin of the phrase".

I like Thanksgiving best. No expectations, just good food and family.

Of holidays that aren't expressly American - I like Holloween (Samhain) best). It's especially meaningful for me right now, because my mother just died; Her picture will be on the dumb supper altar as part of our farewell to her. Her passing at just this time has reinforced, for me, the original meaning of this time of year, when the veil between the worlds is thinnest, and we recognize and say our goodbyes to those who've passed.

I enjoy Christmas because I have an extended period to travel and spend time with family and friends whom I do not see so often. I also love to see how people react to the gifts I have selected for them. It gives me time to cook and be creative and relaxed.

Luxembourg City Fete - Idoubt very much that any one'll have heard of this so I'll explain:
In Luxembourg City we celebrate this in early september with food, dances, general revelery, music, and, best of al, food. I also love Carnival, which is a whole month of festivities before Lent. the least exciting is Schueberfouer, which includes, among other things, decorated sheep. Octave is cool for royalists - they all go on Parade at this Catholic festival, which is quite fun when everyone's out waving falgs etc - this doesn't happen nearly as often here as in places like England.

I like Thanksgiving. You dont have to buy stuff for people (other than food) and you get to eat...a lot. Especially in my family. I will go with my mothers family, eat there, then move to my fathers family which I really like, as I identify with being part of it. Usually after that, I end up going to friends houses to eat dinner with them and their family (if they have family living in the area.)

Its a full day devoted to never being less than completly full. I feel like a Roman.

No you have it all wrong, The whole year should be about less family and the whole year should also be about more presents.
