When the heck is NVIDIA going to announce their new cards?

Seriously, I wanna get an 8xxx card near the end of the year. They're supposed to be released in November. Do they always wait this long to officially announce their cards?

Don't worry. You will get it eventually, and it will still run worth shit on Vista, because NVIDIA's Vista drivers are a worthless pile.

I'm sure between now and then, NVIDIA will fix their Vista drivers.

They've had three years.
T'was rather harsh. Nobody has good Vista drivers. ATi's Vista drivers are better than their Linux dlivers though.
Nobody has decent Vista drivers because the bloody OS isn't even out yet. Yeah, sure, there are betas available, but what's the point? Games aren't being made for it yet, so I have no reason to update. (Though I'm sure the instant it's officially released Microsoft will insist upon all game companies making PC games to switch instantly to Vista. :( )

Three years ago Microsoft told developers that the core of the OS was frozen to allow them (developers) to be able to start working on drivers without having to start over every month.
And no reason to update? Having lousy drivers at Vistas launch will destroy your products reputation in the techy world. Techies are fickle and will jump boat at the drop of a hat. When they do so, they tend to bring many people with them.

...so that means it's a good thing not to update, right? Or are you saying they'll start developing games for other operating systems? Or am I just so exhausted from work I'm not understanding anything worth a damn?

It means you shouldn't update. Although I will anyway. There's no way developers will abandon Windows.

Basically, it would be the companies suicide to have lousy Vista drivers. Their vocal fans will start pimping the competition, and they will lose assloads of money. However, everyone's drivers suck so basically the only real alternative is to wait to upgrade.
