Hey guys,
In world history we're studying Islam. There is a shortage of school supplies so we can't bring text books home. I and probably other kids who weren't able to complete the assignment before the period ended (we were only given five minutes :headbang: ) have decided to use the internet, I then remembered while searching google that the US government snoops on connections and identifies anyone looking up stuff on Islam as a terrorist. Are they going to like abduct me and put me in a room with two hotheaded FBI agents now?

Yes. Pack as many of your belongings into a suitcase as you can, gather up your family, and try to be in Mexico before the next full moon.

Good luck.

:( Ok government, I know you listen to my phone calls with my geeky friends so you know that I oppose Islamists! No need to send the CIA at me.

no. just watch what sites you go to, and if the FBI should come to visit, be polite, helpful, and don't be defensive. Answer all their questions with a level head and keep all your homework/assignments handy. oh and the name of your teacher would also help.

No they will not come. Unless you went on a terrorist site and did alot of things on it. Oh and Islam does not mean Terrorism. You should be fine.

Just don't look at any pages with the words "bomb", "nuclear", "anthrax" or "jihad" on them. Oops. Too late. :D

NO

That would be a huge, resounding no. I have like 3 islam related pages in my favorites, also my school has a club for muslims, they don't seem to care.

The government doesn't have the resources to process that kind of information.

The government doesn't have the resources to process that kind of information.

If I recall correctly, what happens is that all communications are intercepted by a system called "Echelon" - it's international, not just American - and then, if anything passes through that the system identifies as a threat, I guess it gets sent for a human to look at. If it really is a threat, they can then act on it.

It may trigger something, but probably not. It's mor eon the phone if oyu say stuff like: "Hezbollah, Hamas, Osama bin Laden...George Bush, assassinate..."

Looking up historical information will not get the government's attention. You have to look for rather specific Jihad-related websites or send emails which include trigger words like "bomb", "infidel" or the like.

A bit of paranoia is okay, but too much can become a little bit silly. ;)
