An EXCELLENT start to the weekends football.

Melbourne Victory belted NZ Knights 4-0, and my second team NC Jets got a upset 2-1 over Adelaide.

Now, if Liverpool can beat Aston Villa, Stuttgart can beat Schalke, and AA can beat Arminia, then I'm set.

Not bloody likely.

Once upon a time, I sort-of followed Villa... but that was almost entirely because, for some reason, Dean Saunders made me laugh. Anyway, the dull point is that I seem to remember Villa having a great talent for losing to Liverpool, and it used to be 3-0 every damn time. So you never know, they've got to start losing some time, it's un-Brummie to constantly win.

No, no. The important thing is that Preston give Burnley a good thrashing, tonight, or I'll probably be obliged to spend my last day here listening to the grumbling about it.

Congratulations, your team beating the new zealand knights raises your team level to: Functionally retarded.

Would you like to play the next level?

We're on top of the league; we've only lost one game.

Luckily the league has a built in system where I don't have to pay any attention to know how the New Zealand team is doing. It used to be the same in the NRL, I could just assume the warriors were second to last, one above south sydney..

Excellent result, I tipped them for a 2 goal win, but I'm happy with 4. :) I'm going to Docklands next weekend to watch the game.

Fuck the Scouse twats. Sorry for the language, but as a Man United fan, I absolutely loathe Liverpool, Everton and that entire insipid city. Defacing Old Trafford, throwing excrement at United fans and trying to tip Alan Smith's ambulance......

It's alright, they're in the bottom half where they deserve to be. With a bit of luck Benitez can drag them into the relegation battle this year.

It's a nicer city than Manchester, which is, to be totally honest, dull. And if Alan Smith can forgive the Liverpool fans, I think the least you could do is do the same.

An excellent start to the weekend's football would be for Sheffield United to beat Chelsea. And then to continue, Bolton to beat Man Utd. And Arsenal to beat Everton.

If you take a quick glance over at my location tag then you'll realise that it's unlikely I'm unbiased but I have to ask where you get the idea that Manchester is dull?

On my numerous trips to the city. Sure, there's some cool shops and nice buildings (the town hall's quite impressive, actually), but the general atmosphere seems to be so depressive. Sheffield, London, Newcastle and Nottingham are the only good cities in England, when you take everything into account.

Nottingham? Now I know you're taking the piss.

I love Nottingham. Could be that I'm from there, but even so, it's still a nice place. I think it has a lot more character to it than Manchester.

I think it could be rose tinted glasses, that city is a grim place with a bad nightlife. Granted I've only been out there a few times but it was always with locals who knew the place and the bars and clubs just seemed so generic.

Bad nightlife doesn't make it a bad place. Like I said, it has character, unlike Manchester. And it does have the best live music venue in the country - Rock City.

I'm curious what you mean by character?

Rock City? Not a patch on the Roadhouse.

The general feeling I pick up from the city. Nottingham's like a small town that just happens to have grown into a city, whereas Manchester is a city that seems to be stuck up it's own arse. Everybody I know who lives in or comes from Manchester spends half their time telling me how great the city is, and when I go there it just seems that everyone feels so smug about living in 'the greatest city', when in fact it's one of the least friendliest places I've been in this country.

Rock City? Not a patch on the Roadhouse.
Erm, whatever. I've never been to the Roadhouse (and considering I've been to a fair few gigs in Manchester despite living over 100 miles away, that's saying something), but having a look at their website, it doesn't seem to be much better than the best venue in Leicester...

Rock City on the other hand has some great bands playing. It's like Manchester Academy, MA2, MA3 and the Apollo all rolled into one.
