WTF? Undercover cops?

Damn university administration and City of Columbus. You suck balls, you hear that, you suck balls.

I take a look at my email, and I've got a fistful of propaganda, with stuff about "avoid underage drinking" and "undercover cops on football saturdays" and "student safety." Student safety my ass.

I cracked a beer just to spite those bastards.

Better than BU. They have made a rule that you can't swear at the hockey games (hockey is our major sport). This doesn't work well, considering our major cheer at every game is "Fuck 'em up, Fuck 'em up, BC sucks" (yes, even when we aren't playing BC) or "Sit, you suck". Or "Asshole"

At Ohio State we had a really rough patch four years ago after the OSU-Michigan game (for those who don't know, it's a major rivalry, the most ferocious rivalry in American sports, by most accounts) when OSU won. There was rioting and looting and general madness around campus in 2002, and a lot of it was caught on tape.

Since then, the University Admin has apparently managed to get undercover cops to go around campus and the university district in general, looking espescially for alcohol violations. Just, recently they sent out a whole mess of emails about underage drinking, and how it's going to be harshly cracked down on, and so on and so forth. It just made me wig out for a moment.

But, this spate of warnings, coming so long before the Michigan game seems to be like them just prepping us for the deluge to come.

Nah, just unreasonable.

Well you can understand why universities will have anti drinking campaigns. Everytime the news shows picture of drunken parties with date rapes, binge drinking, riots etc., it is bad PR for the school. So they encourage the students to not make them look bad by fucking up and having it plastered on TV's nationwide.

Ah, yes. The great Ohio State-Michigan divide, well you can't blame them; How much money do you think they had to shell out for damages to property, people, cars, etc. I hope there isn't another riot at either schools, BTW is it MSU or U of M playing? My sister goes to state........

Your sister is safe then. It's U of M that gets all the hatred from OSU, something like 85 years worth of collective anger or something.

Aye, I don't like the riots, not at all, but sending out undercover cops seems to be more than a bit much. After all, studies have shown that police cruiser presence on the streets is a far greater deterrent to drunks flipping cars and burning stuff than having undercover cops whose sole purpose is to arrest. They serve no deterrent purpose, because the students don't know who they are, and are more likely to burn the couch than if a cruiser is right on the street.

and that is incredibly stupid. Universities are the only organization that is considered directly responsible for its members, despite having no further control than any other group. When a man gets into a drunk driving accident, you don't hear "He worked for Pzier" or when a woman gets raped, you don't hear about how the rapist was a member of the Lions

Oh, I thought you guys just hated us collectively.:p I don't watch football much as you can probably tell, really boring IMO.

Aye, most of the time the games really don't interest me(I've left the last three shortly after half time, and sold my ticket for the upcoming game), but I've been a lifelong fan of our marching band here at OSU. Great halftime shows, although last weeks was a bit cheesy.

A good game can catch my attention, but those are so damn rare that I often wonder why I buy the tickets.

I see at least a couple people here at western kentucky university getting DUIs every couple of days. I go to college but i have kids too and i don't believe in driving drunk. I have before and have had a couple close calls to where i didn't know how i managed to park my car the night before and it is just foolish. I wish everyone could learn their lesson before something happens they may regret. don't get me wrong, i'm all about beer and tailgating, but party responsibly so you can party again the next week.

There's only one problem with me and driving drunk: I am auto-free.

No car here, I sold it to purchase a quarter here at my delightful, but shockingly expensive school.

Well, let's see, I got one from them about the elevators in Stradley Hall, and I got another one from them about undercover officers and the safety of facilities on campus. I didn't even know there were undercover cops on football Saturdays...

Combine that with the 30 or so emails from various, ill-advised maillist signups and I've got a nicely packed inbox. Damn OSU for giving us only 15mb of email space...and damn Students for Strickland and the Libertarian Student Organization for sending me every single attachment sent to the mailing list. I don't even attend either of them.

You mean 170 years or so right? That's how long it's been since the Toledo War, anyway.

I don't watch much college football lately (although I go to my school's home games) but I always watch the Michigan-Ohio State game. It's definately the best game of the year.

Ahh, glorious webmail.

So, wait, you've not gotten like two emails a day about underage drinking?

Maybe I'm having warnings sent in my direction...

Same here on the students for strickland though. I get incessant barrages from them.

Ahh, glorious webmail.

At least it's more reliable than my WebWork account for math...it took me five weeks to realize that I use my email account to log in, so my grade is pretty much shot for this quarter. At least I can retake it in spring...

Nah, I probably just missed them. I've got about 300 emails in my "archive" folder, and I'm sure I haven't read all of them.

My fight song has 2 types of alcohol in it...the cops don't do much to stop us drinking. The worse that happened was(because I sit front row) when I was messing with one of the ESPN cameras trying to get its antenna onto my flask...the cop tried to kick me out, but I got back in. fun times.

and no I don't know why I was doing that.
